I've tried to make this images for... 6 months?! x.XIt was a horror before I colored it. Now it's just... not-so-good. But I'm afraid that this is the best I can pull off when it comes to absol at this point, sorry
I tested many versions, especially with making the head symetric, but it didn't look much at all as absol after that. So I stayed to this... reptile-feline critter with diffrent sized ears...
Here I pictured absol to be a solo-predator, with a behavior simular to a bobcat. Just by looking at it's body, I can't say much more... maybe it dig out borrows of smaller pokémon with their strudy claws, and also use the claws as a tool when it climb things as rocks and trees.
Which don't make much sence, as it lives on plains in R/S?

Personally, I've always imagined Absol as some variety of cat-like Mesonychid ("hooved carnivores" like Andrewsarchus and the ancestors of whales for those ignorant of prehistoric mammals). However, I find your design as being original, beautifully executed, and loyal to the biological elements present in the canon design. Far too often I've seen Absol depicted as a mere feline and that frustrates me (not to mention how so few people know of Absol's mythological basis in the Bai-Ze). Anyways, good work.

However, the only thing MORE frustrating to me than Absol being interpreted as a cat is Absol being interpreted as a wolf.

You, my friend, are either extremely underconvident, or extrmely clever. After all, calling a good picture bad makes people compliment it more.
Anyway, I like this one. Like meowth, this is good, because it's just got that bit of weirdness, yet still looks liflike. It almost looks like an otter in this picture. An otter with a salamander tail.
I'm glad you didn't just make it a wolf like some might picture it. This is just so much cooler than a plain canine.

You know what, after that girls quits after this final batch of Pokemon, you can take her place. You are da bomb at these realistic Pokemon. I would've liked them more if the Pokemon were done in a more realistic style. Cartoony Anime isn't really my style.
And I love how you did this Absol! A hornless one is unique and new...Is that even supposed to be a horn on the front, or a crest.

I like the idea, you did a great job on Absol! The head looks a bit off, though: the snout seems misshapen, it looks like it's bigger on Absol's right than on his left. And ~Manga-in-a-Bottle is right, it has cross-eyes. Other than that, I really like it! Especially the tail, I can very much imagine Absol's tail like that.

Absol is an odd creature indeed, but I think you did a very good job at giving it a realistic look.

Interesting concept - gives the dragony feet somewhat more realistic appearance. I can only offer my own insights into Absol in response to the 'logic' question regarding it living on plains in R/S/E and all.
I personally view Absol as somewhat of a Mountain Lion/wolfish creature (elements of both) - with those blades being actually blades - short tail tipped with a sickle-like blade, and the head blade being some kind of a horn (with absol having very small, vaguely pointy ears set on its head in a way that is obscured in its fur, and a small other horn on the other side, again obscured by the fur) - The purpose of the head being assymetric is unknown, but it suggests that the head horn may be used mostly for display (like the right claw on certain types of crustaceans which I forget the name of).
Also, I view Route 120 as a mountainous area - the paths you take are at the foot of these mountains, and as the PokeDex itself said, Absol is very rarely seen at the foot of the mountains it inhabits, and so when it DOES come down due to its highly attuned with nature senses, it's usually only travels off mountains when a natural disaster is about to strike. People have interpreted this behaviour as Absol coming to warn people from disaster in legend, but, well, people are people. xD Definitely on the solitary hunter thing, though little is known about their interactions with their own species as Absol sightings are fairly uncommon.

I love the concept you described!
Your version sounds much more interesting and correct, and would also give absol more grace and beauty (the creature I drew isn’t... very pretty, imo).
If the head scythe was used as a hunting weapon as you said, maybe it could explain the asymmetry too? Two big hors wouldn’t work well, and some animals, as the hermit crab, got asymmetric bodies used in other ways then mating behaviours.
I drew the black patch on the forehead as a tiny, random horn, but in your version it maybe could resemble the second small horn, if moved a bit more to the side?
