Description About the MOC
AKA The Mana Ramp Matoran!

This is going to be somewhat confusing, but Gudina isn't what I'd classify as my self MOC, but my namesake MOC. My SelfMOC is still is and always will be Matteo.  But I wanted a MOC that represented my username, Mana Ramp matoran, so here he is! I chose the name "Gudina" because its an east African name that means Growth, and his weaponry is based on Aztec shields and clubs .

Gudina represents my love of both MTG, and Bionicle. There's a magic card called Growth Spiral , which inspired his name. And for the photo collage here, I used the Zendikar Expedition lands artwork for the background. MTG has been a big source of inspiration for how I approach my creative endeavors over the last few years. While I haven't made anything specific from the game, I apply a lot of its conventions of philosophies to the way I think creatively these days. The way I name my MOCs, how I think about them as characters, etc.

Mask painted by Modalt Masks. I bought this mask from him ages ago, and I finally got around to using it.

Gonna said, I think Gudina could be my favourite MOC of yours, dear. P1NG and Maristella always had a special place in my heart due to their amazing character concept, but even if Gudina isn't as amazing in that field as those two, he tops them in the rest of the fields, like color scheme or detailing. Unlike the other two, for example, I can't see any flaws in this build: the design is great, the colors are well distributed, and he looks complete in every angle. Even the shoulder back, which was the area that worried me the most, is very nicely covered with that Duplo (?) cape! That said, love the different pieces used here, like the purple wristcuffs, the leaves, the 2x3 tiles with clips or said cape. The different shades of green and brown work surprisingly well together, and the purple is a very nice touch. G2 Kakama is one of my favourite masks so that's a win too, though the shade doesn't match that well with the official purple but that can't be avoided. Sword and shield are both simple in terms of look but very effective and fitting, loving both too.
Though I wonder, why is he missing a claw on both feet? Since both have toes feel like you forgot to add them or just didn't have the pieces for it. Doesn't look bad, I'm just curious.

All in all, practically perfect from my point of view. One of the best Matoran builds I have seen. You should use him as some kind of mascot, not to replace Mattee, but for example promoting yourself in the MAGIC community. Love him, dear! <3

OMG wow Lianyu, that's quite high praise. I didn't expect you to like this MOC so much as to rate it as one of my best. Thank you!

Yeah I'm pretty sure that leaf cape thing is off of a Duplo figure/set. I didn't show it off that well, but there's a bunch of system on his side and back to fill him in. I made his "skin" silver and dark grey, and then all the browns and purples are armor and stuff.

I agree, the mask isn't exactly the right color, but it's approximate, and that's good enough for me.

I didn't leave off any parts. Look at your feet, your inner toe is the biggest one right? This is something I see people miss out on doing all the time. You look at some of my other MOCs, I always try to actually build toes accurately, one big one on the inner most toe, and the outer most toe is the smallest or set back if I can. Well he only has two toes, so that'll mean one big one and one small one. It amazes me how much people don't pick up on that, and build entirely symmetrical feet.

That's something I'm struggling with. Do I change my icons on social media to be Gudina, or do I keep them as Matteo?

While I can see your point regarding the asymmetry of feet, I kinda feel you are assuming something that it isn't actually necessary. Barely any BIONICLE set has distinguished left and right feet (in terms of symmetry I mean), and not a single Matoran does. In fact, you can see the Shadow Matoran have symmetric toes. Why would you asume they have asymmetric toes at all, just because us humans do? Technically speaking they could have bird like foots or hooves What I mean, it's not "mandatory" that they should have that kind of toes, so more than not picking up on that, I kinda feel it's like... They don't actually care that much xD

In all honesty Matteo is too associated with your persona and builds that changing it now after all this time would be a bit confusing, and the change is less motivating considering you prefer Matteo as a character and build by far. BUT, in the MAGIC community, where (I assume) your being isn't that associated with the Lego Plague Doctor, I feel Gudina could become quite the representative character, dear. Since your social accounts are actually oriented to both, I would keep Mattee for sure, but if you have, dunno, an ID card for tournaments or something exclusive for MTG, I would use Gudina there.

Hmmm the same concept could be applied to hands to. Why do hands need to have X amount of digits. Some don't, but a lot of people make the point to try and give their MOCs four fingers and a thumb. Because stylistically, that's what we're used to Art imitates life, that's been true for all of human history. So I think where people want to replicate a kind of tribal vibe, bare feet are a good way to do so, and it adds that extra level of attention to detail to give them big toes. I see people offset fingers to indicate big and small fingers, or change the size of the claw piece used. People distinguish hands, but they gloss over the feet. I just don't think some MOCists think that deeply about the form and function of their MOC. A lot of builders focus purely on aesthetics, which is fine, but I just value those other factors a lot more.

I agree. MTG has some shamanistic looking planes. Tarkir and Ixilan being some of the most recent examples(look them up if you're interested). But Matteo could fit into the Magic aesthetic to. But I've definitely never seen a plague doctor in Magic, which is a real shame, cause it certainly would fit. Anymore the only social media that really fits Magic is Youtube. I don't really use it for anything besides hastily uploading sealed product openings. I need to find a decent video editing software that can handle the kinds of things I'd like to do for any kind of Bionicle content, plus I just don't have anything that interesting to add I don't think. I closed down my twitter cause Twitter is fucking awful, and Instagram focuses more on Bionicle as well. I sprinkle some MTG in there every now and again.

Good point there, dear! A big difference could be that fingers are way more relevant that toes, since hands are our main tool but we barely notice the toes. Not like I'm knowledgeable about the matter, but our toes have devolved since our origins and while they are still useful, specifically for balance, they will probably disappear with evolution, unlike hands for which opposite thumbs have become a trademark for our current stage of evolution. HOWEVER, and while that is my point of view of why toes aren't a necessary detail for most of creations, I do agree with your reasoning being the main one of why people don't give toes to their creations: they don't think about it that much. I have seen a few MOCers adding them in the recent years, but still people rarely add them.

Oh, I see. Twitter is awful indeed, I made two accounts and none of them managed to take off because people are complaining and crying over everything, it was so frustrating. -__- Mmmm most of the people I know use Windows Movie Maker or an Adobe editor, at least those two offer decent capacites for low (or no) price. But I don't know too much about the matter.
