This has some potential I particularly like the colors you used how it's primarily the teal and purple. Practice makes perfect though as you said you're not too good at backgrounds. Take some time to study them if you know they're a weakness because the longer you put it off the worse it'll look in comparison to the work you are improving. Other then that what I notice is the arms, for one, seem quite long. Way too long for his body proportions. The perspective as well could use a bit of work as the lines on the buildings are, in some cases, quite off while others are aligned properly. Still! Tackle a simpler amount of points first to get the feel for it and truly understand before you go to the hard angles.
