Description Project: Emulate the style of a famous illustrator. I chose Coles Phillip's Fadeaway Girl.

I tried all kinds of fnegling in photoshop to get the colors to look like they're supposed to, but in the end the original photo was just way too saturated to begin with. Maybe someday I'll get a good one of this piece.

Done with watercolors on illustration board

Edit: Updated with a newer, much better image of the piece, yay!

Didn't see the original you mention - but like this, and think you succeeded with the syle you were after. Very likely my monitor - and that this is a scan of the original... but the contrast between the background and the dress, especially on the image left seems to blend together... though would bet in the "real world" viewing... there is more gradation. Not bothersome or expressing this as a negative - but as something thought might want to know.

The concept of the Fadeaway girl is that they blended into the background. If anything, the impression of a difference between her dress and the background is the optical illusion here.

Fantastic, great use of colours! The simple range of autumnal colours works so well and makes this image so eye-catching. Lovely composition and pose, I like how you can't actually see her face. The arms a possibly a little short, but I'm appalling at anatomy so you probably shouldn't listen to me... Anyway, this is a very pleasing piece, I love it!

The arms are a little chubby, and the hand is a little too large, but that's more a result of me not actually laying down as good a figure drawing as I should have before doing all the fadeaway stuff. Thanks for the comment!

This piece is really gorgeous *__* I love how you use the yellow in creating motion/movement in this pic! It's always best the see the real thing versus a digital copy ;_;

Sadly I'll never be able to look at the original version again... I lost a ton of my artwork when I was booted from my old apartment

Thank you for your comment though! I was very pleased with how the leaves really helped define the overall image ^_^

I like the final results.
As you say scanning can have adverse effects on pieces, but your overall vision still shines through.
