Description Ayla from Chrono Trigger. I have no freaking idea how long it took me to finish this. I did the drawing months ago, but didn't actually Photoshop-color it until now, and even that took me days. The hardest part was not, as one might expect, the hair - no, it was the palm tree leaves. Accursed things.

Lol, she has pit hair.

I love this color scheme. Very nice pose, and the hair is fantastic.

Where's the dinosaurs?

There are a few pterodactyls in the background... think of the title as an action instead of a noun and it makes more sense that there aren't really any dinosaurs visible.

I felt it was missing from Toriyama's drawings of her.

I'm not world's biggest Ayla fan, but this is just too damn gorgeous to pass up! I can tell that a lot of work and effort went into it, particularly in a background so detailed. Also, I knew right away which part took the longest. Drawing leaves sucks and takes forever, and palm fronds have so many little leaves... but the effect is fabulous! Definitely a big +fave!

I'm not the hugest Ayla fan either, but I just got this mental image of her one day and I was all like "Damn, I gotta paint that."

Very nice work, I can only imagine how much time this would have taken. My favourite parts are the clouds, palms and the background mountain foilage.

Well, as you stated in your commentary, the palm tree leaves are the hardest elements to draw, and they seem to turn out very well in this picture. In addition to the well-rendered character, the background is something to look at.

Wonderful coloring and great job setting up the "coming-out-of-the-jungle" scene! The birds in the upper left are also great, they really add to the picture and make the left side interesting.

it's actually impressive to find a drawing of a video game character that isn't the typical anime stylized version. good job.

thank you!

I can't draw Toriyama-style anyway.

DJSmith In reply to plangkye [2006-10-19 17:12:22 +0000 UTC]

lol. i was looking at your other stuff (obviously) and your anime style drawings aren't bad either. but what's best is that it's more your own style anyways. toriyama was good and all, but who wants to copy his style on his own work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

plangkye In reply to DJSmith [2006-10-19 17:17:38 +0000 UTC]

Well, there's a time and place for style mimickry. Sometimes it can be really impressive to make something indistinguishable from the authentic, like when you're designing an original character to fit into an existing universe

DJSmith In reply to plangkye [2006-10-19 17:20:04 +0000 UTC]

i suppose so. i didn't really think of it like that. then again, i'm no artist

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

plangkye In reply to DJSmith [2006-10-19 17:23:07 +0000 UTC]

Just because you don't draw is no reason to call yourself 'no artist.' I'm sure Ansel Adams would agree with me.

well, i meant more along the lines of the art of canvas. or what have you. the only thing i can do is write somewhat well, and i put that up somewhere else. thank you though

I think this is one of the best pictures in your gallery. It does look like it would have taken a lot of time. It looks like you really try to get all the details in and it's worth it because it turned out great. I still don't know if i am going to play Chrono Trigger. I am kind of debating against Chrono Trigger or FF9 as the next game i play.

The background here is amazing. That girl has strong legs!.. but not in a male way... you know.. sometimes when people make strong woman.. they kinda have this male figure.. but you still have her female
The face is very expressive you can tell that shés on the watch.
