I drew some art of my current favorite OC to self-celebrate my birthday! (Happy birthday to meeeee! \o/ )
It was originally supposed to be a series of sketches of how Rurise's hairstyle changed as he grew but it turned into something else....

Rurise spent most of his childhood and adolescent years in the hospital because of his recurrent nephrolithiasis (kidney stone disease). He's spent more time with the medical staff than his own parents (who both worked full time and apparently did not have much affection toward a child that was sickly since birth), and ultimately grows to admire their resolve - perhaps to the point of deification - which is the reason he chooses to follow in their footsteps by becoming a nurse. With the absence of his parents' guidance, as well as not having much time to socialize with peers or teachers in a school setting, Rurise developed a pervasive sense of 'self' - the adult Rurise can only see himself as a healthcare worker and nothing else. The reason why he avoids any deep relationships with other people is also due to this; he has no other persona to shift to when needed, and is extremely vulnerable psychologically in this sense.
