Thought-provoking image
But even a Sisyphus job is better with a bit of help...

possibly the same storm that visited us too? david or sth.. if US storms actually can cross to here ~
anyways, must be awful with power cuts = no heating in winter, or barred roads, i can understand your anxiety.
luckily while i live quite high at 1000m it's not one of those CH regions with frequent land slides and/or inundations blocking all road access, or the coldest/harshest winter conditions in the whole country, it's just pretty cold+snowy. this patch in the outskirts of town is xtra windy, but the forest right out of my doorstep actually shields its own trees and the house from the wind i think.
when such natural events happen you just realize that despite our modern "civilized" grip on the world we humans still don't have as much power over the elements as we'd like to ~ it's quite frightening, it makes you feel tiny and mightless... and we're just talking about miniature storms on miniature earth.

Because I'm older it would be hard to extricate myself and two cats in a perilous situation (one tree fell was 140 feet tall, limbs falling weighing 200/300 pounds)Β

pure horror. do you have trees in the immediate vicinity of the house, like, could they fall ON the house and actually wreck (parts of) it, burying whatever's under it? hm, sure being older or somehow slowed down by physical issues is more dangerous - however if anything falls on somebody's head, age isn't very relevant i guess..
are those storms frequent in your region?

Huge trees everywhere, all I could do is run to bottom level (the house is three levels built into the hill) I don't think anyone knows what normal weather is at the moment.

It's snowing off and on, very wet and heavy. I just don't want ice build up.Β

yup, ice is the worst! have to walk 10min to the next bus stop, up/downhills, and they never clean the sidewalk properly out here so there's almost always ice, makes me walk xtra carefully like a snail - sometimes i even walk on the road... you just have to calculate 2-3 times the usual time. my boots have studs, too

what about salt? not cool for shoes but well... here they also have those little plastic bottles with some wood spans on some road crossings... i occasionally take one along.
yup, other post has just been replied to ^^

Salt isn't allowed in our area, sand or tire nibs are okay!

true, salt is crap for the environment. i guess that's why they spread those wood chips on the sidewalks now here instead of salt then.. tire nibs? hm. ok, guess once you manage to sweep them all off later.. at least it doesn't melt polluting the soil ~

As in snow tires rather than "chips".

Not a problem my mind make things up all the time (very often inappropriately).
