from what i guessed, friday was milton's mate but bailey was jealous of them or hated them
bailey had an idea (what it is? i don't know at all) but friday disagreed wich made him angry, he killed friday and told the cats that followed him to attack milton too
while defending himself, milton killed one of the cats and ran away, bailey and the others found the corpse, he said it was milton who killed both this cat and friday to the other cats, that he was evil, a killing machine or something like that
they found milton again and bailey sent a cat to attack him, milton sliced this cat's throat in defense and screamed that bailey was the real crazy murderer
bailey ran away to the other cats and told them that they needed to leave the city for protection, probably "because milton killed someone else again" but more for milton to not be able to tell any of the cats the truth

From what I'm getting is that Friday and Milton were lovers. Friday ends up speaking out against Bailey, perhaps exposing him as a fraud or such, just generally something that would upset Bailey to the point where he felt Friday needed to be disposed of. When Milton finds Friday dead, two other cats attack him, possibly due to Bailey wanting Milton taken care of as well. However Milton fends off the cats, even killing one of them. Bailey, after yet a second attempt to get rid of Milton(another user's mentioned that maybe Bailey was trying to run Milton out of town, after setting him up as the murderer), realizes that the jig is up and for fear of his life(or being exposed by Milton), runs away, convincing his followers that there's a murderer on the loose and to save everyone, they need to move out of the city. He mistakenly thinks that this'll get rid of his problems with Milton but as we all see, Milton follows them to their new home and the rest you already know. Maybe when the murders start up again, Bailey mistakenly believes that it's Milton, back for revenge n all? But Milton doesn't actually arrive until after Bailey's death.
