That is one cool looking gate. Do the people of Japan really believe in the spirit world as it's described in shintoism, or have they adopted a more modern religion?

Shintoism is still a fairly large part of Japanese life. People come here to pay their respects, etc., especially around New Years. Our guide said that this place is packed with people around then.
So, they practice the same religion, but I don't think it's as big a part of their lives as it once was.
