Level 4: Comic Chaos: After escaping from the Sky Dragon, Sonic finds a comic book that's completely blank with him on the cover. He opens it up and everybody is sucked in. The level is completely 2D, and the sprites for the characters, objects, and enemies look like drawings made with colored pencil. Your character will also have comic book exclamations when certain things are done, like if you get fast enough, a 'ZOOM!' will appear behind you, and enemies defeated will make a 'POW!' appear. The level is a bit like the Genesis game Comix Zone, and it plays like Sonic 3 and Knuckles, with the other characters and new moves added in. The panels follow the course of the levels you've already been in;You appear to be in Mystic Forest at first, then Surreal Circus, then Sky Dragon! After that, the panels just seem to be colorless sketches of Green Hill and Death Egg Zone. You quickly get to the boss without much of a gimmick.

Boss: Egg-Scribbler: The Green Hill Zone and Death Egg sketches disappear, leaving you with a straight line over spikes. Then the boss appears. It is Eggman in a circular machine. It is made completely out of metal, shaped like a ring with little blobs of paint around it, and a pencil sticking through it, the eraser facing the line. He will set the machine down on the line and erase part of it, then shoot blobs of paint at you. Attack him while he's shooting paint and he will flip upside-down, redrawing some of the line. He only takes as many hits as the first boss of Sonic 2.
