I am using Sony H50 so even when I use a tele lens theres no data entry in the camera.

It should say right on the lense, such as xxMM x xxMM (eg: 75mm x 300mm) or something like that.

thats awesome. when i tried taking piccs of moon, it did not come out very well.

try keeping the ISO to the lowest, shutter speed higher than 200. If things don't work out You can always use a tripod
