Ch. 7: A New Ally

It was around 7 in the morning and the blonde haired, blue-eyed girl had just woken up from the glare of sunlight coming through the window. A fresh breeze blew through the window and it filled the girl's nostrils with the scent of the room.

Payton: *sniffing* Mmmm... smells just like him...

She laid back in the black and red bed and sniffed the pillows and sheets. The aroma of the bed filled her with easeness as she can smell what was like a cologne, but in a sense, it wasn't.

Payton: *thinking* Who would've have thought that he would smell this nice.

But all of a sudden, her nostrils were filled with some other aroma coming from the door. It was a scent that not only drew her attention away from the bed, but made her mouth water.

Payton: *in thought* Mmmmm.....Bacon!

As she went to get out of the bed, she stopped for a moment, sensing that something, or someone was in the room. She went to turn and there in front of her was the dark figure she knew and with a smile, she chuckled.

Payton: *chuckle*
Shadow: *smiled* I sensed you were awake. How are you feeling. (Puts his hand on her cheek)
Payton: *blushing* I feel great! Something smells good!
Shadow: Amy and Rouge decided to cook breakfast this morning, it's bacon and eggs. Come on, let's get you something to eat.
Payton: Sounds good!
Shadow: (stops her) Hang on! A princess needs a proper escorts!

Shadow slids his arms under Payton and took her in his arms bridal style. This made Payton blush and chuckle a bit. With a smile and a wink, Shadow walked with Payton in his arms to the kitchen. They were greeted by Amy, who was putting the food on the table and Rouge, who was cleaning up the kitchen.

Rouge: Well, well! Look who came back from the dead! How are you felling, hon?
Payton: Much better! What a lovely breakfast!
Amy: Me and Rouge spent all morning buying groceries and cooking, so I hope you like it!
Payton: Yay! Let's eat!

After all of them partook in their breakfast, Amy and Rouge cleaned up the kitchen while Shadow and Payton went into the living room and sat on the couch. Shadow wrapped Payton in a soft blanket and put a pillow behind her.

Payton: Shadow...?
Shadow: Yes?
Payton: I want to thank you again for taking me in. You didn't have to do this-
Shadow: Of course I would do this! You are very valuable and I cannot let you out there alone to be killed by Mephiles. Listen, *holds Payton's hand* there is something I have to tell you.
Payton: *blushing* Y-yes, Shadow?
Shadow: *leaning closer* Payton.... I-

A sudden knock on the door interupted Shadow in his words. His ears flickered and turned to Payton.

Shadow: *taps her nose* Hold that thought.

Shadow walks towards the door, and steadied himself, not knowing who would come to his home. He opened the door and in front of him was a figure he had not seen in quite a while.

???: Long time, no see, Shadow.

In front of Shadow was a black hedgehog. He had the same hairstyle as Shadow and Knuckles, but it was more flowing to his back. He had sky blue eyes, similar to Payton's, and he had a white tuff of fur around his right eye, where reveals a scar over his right eye. He was wearing a zip-up jacket and baggy, two-belt pants with white and black sneakers. Payton took notice to the figure and witnessed his eyes turning from blue to red. This had startled her a bit.

Shadow: Well, well, look who decided to disappear for a month without telling anyone.
???: Yea, but I had business to take care of. I actually came back cause something had happened a few days ago and I wanted to ask you a few questions.
Shadow: Come in. I would like you to meet someone actually. (walks towards Payton) Payton, this is Zero. He has been a friend and an ally of the gang for a while.
Payton: Nice to meet you!
Zero: Same here!

Payton then noticed while making eye contact with Zero, his blood red eyes turned to sky blue. Zero tilted his head and look at her.

Zero: Hmmm... you look so familiar... Are you from around here?
Payton: Yes, I am.
Shadow: Well, you see, I actually saved her a few days ago. She was attacked by Mephiles.
Zero: WHAT??? He's still alive?
Shadow: Apparently...
Zero: Wait a sec...

He looks at Payton again and at a sudden, his eyes widened.

Zero: You were the girl in my dream!
Payton: What?
Zero: Well, you see, I had this dream that a girl was being attacked by a dark entity and all I can see was that you were lit up with a light emitting from your chest. I then saw that it was a crystal heart that the dark entity was trying to kill you for. You were defeated and then I woke up. I had to come back to Metropolis and investigate.
Shadow: Well, you found your discovery.
Zero: Shadow, now that I know what's going on, I'm going to stay here and investigate further into this. I maybe coming by your house every day to ask questions to the both of y'all.
Shadow: Understood. But right now, Payton is still weak, so I prefer you not to bother her with the issue right now.
Zero: Understandable. I'll keep in touch.

With a wink, he walked out the door. Shadow closed the door behind him and walked back to his spot next to Payton on the couch.

Payton: He seems nice.
Shadow: Yea, we have known him for a while and he's a good ally to rely on.
Payton: I see... So, what were you gonna tell be before?
Shadow: *nervously gulps* Uhhhh- I forgot. I'll remember later.
Payton: Oh, okay. I'm gonna take a nap.
Shadow: You can lay on my lap if you want.
Payton: *smiles* That would be nice.

Shadow shifted into a laying position on the couch and Payton layed upon him with her head on his fluffy chest. She cuddle up to him until she was comfortable and fell asleep. As this was happening, Amy and Rouge walked in.

Amy: Hey Shadow! Wer-

Shadow immediately puts his finger to his mouth to shush the two females and pointed to the sleeping girl in his lap. The two girls covered their mouths in reaction.

Rouge: *whispers* Amy and I are going shopping. We'll be back, alright?

Shadow nodded his head. After the two girls left, he looked down at the girl snuggled into his chest. He takes the blanket and covers them both. He brushes his hand on her head and kisses it.

Shadow: *in thought* Damn... I should have told her how I felt... I shall have to try again when the time is right...

He then holds her in his arms with his chin resting on her head and fell into a deep sleep.
