Both biblically and historically, Jesus was subversive to the roman state. "Render onto Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and render onto god what belongs to god." is a call for non-compliance, and mocking the emporer for putting value in something that has his face on it. They're monetary system and concepts of ownership are based on violence and thus unholy. βIf we had any possessions we should need weapons and laws to defend them.β (St. Francis of Assisi) the private ownership over property, especially on such a large scale is based on violence, and if violence should be avoided, so should private property.

I really could write a thesis paper on this kind of stuff if I wanted to. not just biblical quotes and quotes from saints but evidence from historical accounts outside the bible, archeological evidence, and even quoting bishops like Γscar Romero or HΓ©lder CΓ’mara. Dorthy Day, an anarchist who started the catholic workers movement with the socialist Peter Maurin, has been up for cannonization (as in making her an official saint) and there has been a recent effort for this.
