We LOVE our folktales, everyone knows about 2 dozen.
This is one of my favs, The little rooster's diamond penny dun ask why diamond. It doesn't make sense in Hun. either. Basically the story is as follows:The lil rooster digs up the penny, and the GREEDY, FAT and LAZY Turkish sultan
takes it away from him. The rooster goes to harass him, and the sultan tries to get rid of the bird in a number of different ways (throwing him in a well, then a furnace and finally, a beehive). The lil guys always manages to survive, then the sultan decides toSTUFF IT IN HIS PANTS
(I am so NOT even kidding: [link] ) to chocke it. But the rooster lets loose all the bees it swallowed in the beehive, ouch.... The sultan runs away in defeat, and all his riches belong to the rooster and its owner, the old lady.
The BG of the upper pic is the opening scene of the 70's series "Hungarian folktales". They're awesomely popular, EVERYONE knows the opening melody, and, beside being deviant and STRANGE, they're helluva cute and funny. Youtube has some, but with original dubbing only. D: Still, check out the designes, Marcell Jankovics did a wonderful job on them.

I think a friend once showed me one of those folk tales videos, something with a gold goat, or something (She was trying to show me how to pronounce Hungarian "Ny" in "arany" before I discovered it was pronounced the same as Spanish "Ñ" XDXD)

XD awesome! that tv show is being broadcast in Romania, on Minimax as well XD. But i can't remember many tales, since i hadn't watched the show for some time. Too cute!

oh, when was Matyas kiraly made? anyway... we don't have pretty cartoons T_T... mrrr... though, there are some cartoons with a little man designed by our artist Gopo that are interesting.
Anyway, random thing! I have found on dA many hungarian comic artists and even a club dedicated to them! (darn, just can't find the link right now). Just wondering, are there any hungarian comics for sale in your country? =^_^=

You mean Hungarian comics for sale? Yeah, we have pretty many, there's a Comic festival twice a year and there all the popular and not-so-popular artists can sell their work.

I just can't resist to ask; what on earth was a oh-so-holly sultan doing near a cow? 
here, there are stories about how there was a period of time when the french or some country didn't shower because of religious reasons and when they sent their representative to ottoman, he wouldn't be let near the sultan n he'd be cleaned up at the hamams XD lol (I hear that's how parfumes got invented to cover the smell) I don't know how accurate this info is but I heard it lolz. but the cow thing instantly reminded me of this story for some reason haha. mabbe 'cos they stink? XD

It's basically a nursery rhyme, joking about how "tehenek"=cows and "Mehemed"=Mehmet rhyme.

Hungarians tend to illustrate Turks in tales as sultans or rich ppl, guess that's the image that got stuck in out heads XD
