He should totally be in... that era that I forget the name of? Meiji? The one where ancient Japan has just opened itself up to outside influences and you see old hakama and kimono being worn at the same time as suits and dresses. I think he would work well around that time - staying mostly in the traditional ways, but adopting a few (clockwork) new traits...

in terms of clockwork, Japan actually had many advance clockwork mechanisms before outside influences were really introduced.
I do appreciate the info, but part of the point of the AU was that I like drawing traditional Japanese clothing.
