Description well...I've started coloring...my first time using photoshop to color something...kinda fun...but I'm not sure I'll keep working on it today....Just figured I'd post what I have done so far...so maybe I could get opinions on whether I should finish...not sure if I like how photoshop colors...I like my pencils better..

I wouldnt full view if I was you....its huge right now....

oh...and I may have put this into the wrong catagory...not sure...I did use photoshop to color it but I hand drew it...so to me its more traditional art than digital...

This looks great! I know what you mean about using real things like pencil over the point-and-click-and-colour way of doing it on the computer. But those gradient colours look really good!

Thank you! I probably wont ever get around to doing more on it so it probably is done. I will do more of these soon..right now I'm going thru a black and white stage...I do alot of my art in stages...Maybe its cause I'm bipolar and my moods come in stages too....not sure..
but thank you!!!!!

I'll be waiting to see more...you have a real talent for them! Yes....I understand about the "stages"! I'm going through one now...my "fractal stage"! I'm actually a 3D Bryce artist....but love fractals too....and have been in "fractal mode" since January!

I know how that is. I wish I knew how to do fractals. I have no idea. I tried to do some 3d but I cant get the hang of it. I have poser but dont have a clue how to use it....so I suppose I'll be stickin to drawing...but actually I'm gonna work on another emote tonight...just for something different.

First deviation that actually has some depth that I've seen in a while. Good job on the colouring, and it kinda has a cool feeling to it half-coloured.

Thank you! I'm almost up to commenting yours on the forum. I actually am not sure if I'll finish coloring this one...I dont like using photoshop to color so if I ever feel motivated enough I'll color it with my prisma colors and post it. Thank you so much for the comment! So many dont comment on mine and yet want one for themselves...which I do anyway..but ya know, always nice to get comments AND give them.

Yes, a full view is not the best. Stick with your pencils if that's what you're comfortable with. Have you ever tried opaque watercolours. I have a set of them that are in little pans (dry), or you can buy small tubes. You might like them as they cover better than traditional water colours and you don't have to let them "flow". I just find traditional methods more challenging and natural for me. Just a preference.

I think I will stick with my colored pencils. Although right now I'm working on another black and white. I go thru phases with art...where I do certain styles til I'm sick of em, then move on to others. I've never tried watercolors...that would be fun, I'll have to try it!

Sure, whatever you like! and if you need inspiration for other designs, there are always the grandmasters like artists from Turkey or the aboriginal australians who make extraordinary designs.

But always make sure to keep your style true to yourself and original, at the same time while practicing

Yes, I guess it is huge....as per your reply to me....otherwise lovely and if I had your talent with this type of thing, I'd finish it, reduce the size and repost but I think for your style, I tend to agree with you that using a pen/pencil is actually more fun and gives a great effect.

Thank you! I probably will finish it in photoshop but I'm also coloring it with colored pencils.
colored pencils looks much better especially since I only know how to use the magic wand tool and the gradient tool...other than those most of photoshop is a mystery to me still...

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Poofiemus [2006-04-01 06:11:49 +0000 UTC]

Very nice!

Since I'm on my grandpa's cable-equipped compy, I went ahead and fullviewed. Judging by the edges of the colored areas, I'd say you used the magic wand tool to make your selections, yes? In this case, it would probably work better if you used the magnetic lasso tool. To get to it, hold down the little carrot next to the lasso tool to reveal it. It's like a blend of the lasso and the magic wand; As you scroll around, it'll sense and "stick" to certain areas, and when it doesn't quite behave, you click to tell it where it really should go.

I can't wait to see this completed! Photoshop's gradients actually suit your work quite well, you just need a little more practice, that's all.

Maybe I should post one of my early Photoshop pics in my scraps, just for geekservice...

Poess In reply to Poofiemus [2006-04-01 06:15:09 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea what lasso tool even does....do you feel like telling me? I just learned to use the magic wand tool...I'm gonna have to try that.....maybe tomorrow morning...when I'm not so sick of looking at this one....it doesnt help either that the way my computer is set up I have no room for my mouse..so I use my mouse on my leg....which tends to make it a tad difficult..lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Poofiemus In reply to Poess [2006-04-01 06:33:33 +0000 UTC]

The lasso tool is used for making selections, just like the magic wand tool, except in that case you select entirely by hand rather than letting the computer do it for you. It's much more tedious than magic wand, but it's also more precise and allows for the feather option while magic wand usually doesn't. Magnetic lasso is a blend of the two tools.

You've been using your leg as a mousepad?! Ugh. If you're stuck doing that, you should at least usurp something stiff like a binder or a cutting board instead so you're not too twisted up.

And I know only too well what getting sick of looking at an image in Photoshop....*Gives a death glare to "Inu-Yasha Pensive"*

hehe...actually I have my computer in a china cabinet kinda thing and theres no room for anything but the monitor in the cabinet space...so my keyboard and mouse sit on my legs...only when I sit on the floor can I use something else...but then I cant see the monitor...I really need to invest in a computer stand, huh? hehe

I hate to sound completely user ignorant...but what does the feather option do? the only things I have used on there is magic wand and gradient...I havent figured out the rest...and the help box is rather confusing too...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Poofiemus In reply to Poess [2006-04-01 06:45:26 +0000 UTC]

The feather option automatically softens, or "feathers", the edge of your selection by a few pixels. It makes it look a little smoother.

Don't fret about not knowing Photoshop. It's not very friendly to newbs. In fact, you're above average if you could figure out the magic wand by yourself. It completely baffled me until my pal Katy explained it to me.

The best way to learn Photoshop, to me, is by looking over the shoulder of someone who knows the program and who doesn't mind you asking "Wait, how did you do that?" every twenty seconds, and then taking what you learned home and practicing it. I've been using PS for what, 5 years now, and I'm still learning new things. I didn't know about the magnetic lasso tool until four months ago, and I just found out about the masking tool last week! So, yeah, don't sweat it. There are really very few people besides the programmers at Adobe who are not at least a little ignorant about the program's functions.

well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! I'm gonna have to play around with it and figure it out...It took me a while but I taught myself what the magic wand and gradient do.....at first I was using gradient an I couldnt figure out why it made my whole pictured colored instead of where I wanted it to be...lol.....they should really have better tutorials on there, dont you think? Problem for me is I dont even know anyone in real life that uses photoshop...as sad as it is I'm the only artist I know in real life.....rather depressing when I just drew something I'm really proud of and have no one to show it to...thats why I'm glad I found this site...and people like you!

Is there a community college in your area? If so, you may want to see if they offer Photoshop courses at a manageable hour. That way, you can not only learn PS but also meet other artists in your vicinity.
