Description One of the three theological virtues in the list of Seven, Charity is defined as "Benevolence or generosity toward others or toward humanity, indulgence or forbearance in judging others." Charity is often taken as a synonym for love, with strong undertones of mercy and compassion toward others.

Representing Charity here is my take on Sigyn, the wife of the Norse trickster god, Loki. When combing through my characters to see who would represent Charity, no one could touch her. Not many a woman will sit in a dark cavern far away from all her friends and kin, to catch snake venom so that it does not drip on her lying, cheating, treasonous, murderous husband. If you know the myth, you know what I mean. If not, it's not a difficult one to find.

Sigyn is depicted here wearing a blue dress, as blue has long been, in the western tradition, a powerful color signifying fidelity and constance.

Edit: fixed the black
Like all the Virtues and Vices, 'Charity' is done entirely in marker on 7 1/8 x 8" illustration board, black border and text added in Photoshop.

I actually really like how she has his head in his lap and is doing everything she can to comfort him. It's very sweet.

You got that right. I highly doubt I would.

True, Sigyn is... well, she sort of has to really love him to sit in that dark, creepy cavern for eternity catching poinson in a little bowl... that or she's just waay to nice.

Man, I haven't done one of these in forever. Partly because the frames were so much work.

You could do the frames digitally. Yeah I know it feels like cheating, but it looks neater and saves time.

Awww, Sigyn! I'd hug her, but then she'd spill the bowl. She's such a sweet, loyal character, it amazes me how many people completely ignore her existence >_ < Both of their expressions are good - I envy your expressiveness. Le sigh. (I've looked through the previous several pages of your gallery, and just now got my lazy ass out of gear to comment) I suppose Sig could just balance the bowl ON Loki's face, but then he might thrash....

Oh, and I love his curled, rigid hands. That's one panicky god of chaos.

People always overlook hands, or tremble in fear at drawing them, and yet they're almost as expressive as faces... if not more so at times.

This is very true. Well-drawn hands make a picture ten times better; well-drawn, expressive hands, infinitely so.

Very good! I love Loki's expression, and her hand on his cheek.
My only criticism would be that her lips look rather over-large. It might be just me.
Apart from that, I really like it!

It's great that you put so much thought into it. And your absolutely right, Sigyn is perfect, I never would have thought of her.
Excellent!

Heh, thanks! I'll admit, choosing Sigyn was easy because she simply didn't have anyone who could compete with that level of selflessness. I had a much harder time filling in some of the other slots in both the virtues and vices, though. Didn't always have a character who lent themself so easily to the task.
