Description I'm tired to see all these people thinking that all the persons who are trying to learn japanese AND who like manga / anime are learning japanese just BECAUSE they like manga / anime.

I'm sure it's true sometimes, but not always.

Myself, by example: I begin to learn japanese by myself four years ago... and I begin to read mangas just the last year!

So this stamp is for all the people like me who begin to learn japanese BEFORE beginning to read mangas

Fell free to use it in your journal!

This happened often enough to make a button for it?
Sad

I agree! I'm trying to learn a lot of their culture and everything else besides manga & anime.
It gets annoying hearing people only saying stuff like "Kawaii" "Konnichiwa" and not actual phrases...

I used to learn Japanese before I knew about anime and the comics but I stopped learning it for a while. When I learned what anime was and I became a fan of it, I started learning Japanese again!

When I started learning Japanese, I had this plan that I would take one year of each foreign language; freshman year was Spanish, sophomore was Japanese, junior was French, and senior was Latin. However, French was then cut and it's required that you take two years of a foreign language to graduate. I figured, "what the hell, I'll stick with Japanese."

Now I've come to really love it. First, my intentions were impure, though; I did do it because I wanted to read manga for myself without all of the errors of online translators. But now, I've developed a liking for the sounds of the language and have a better understanding of the culture. Now, whenever I hear a word or see a character I know I get really excited and challenge myself to try and guess what the sentence is about or read the characters out loud.

Sadly, I can't take Japanese III next year because it won't be offered.

Merci pour le commentaire

Well, I think there's no "bad" or "impure" reason to learn a foreign language. You can begin to learn it by interest for the country and its culture (especially history in my case), and discover during the learning that should be, well... very useful to play otome games
To do it in the other way (wanting to learn for dating games and mangas; and finally develop interest for so much more things) is not a worse way.

The most important thing is that the learning of the language can make you look further than why you've originally wanted to learn it for

That's true. Thank you very much!

I just kept thinking that it was probably bad that i was learning Japanese in the beginning just to decode manga. XD

Actually I started to learn Japanese after my interest in anime/manga started, but it was not for that reason why I started. I became interested in anime at 12 years old, then started learning JP at 17. I first came to respect the culture and then I started learning. That interest was less from an interest in manga and more because I simply have a love for Japanese people and culture.

So true. Japanese gets a lot of negative stigma because of the weeaboos mangling it. I plan to learn Japanese formally. It's a beautiful language and something I can do in my spare time.

And I have been learning bits of it since I was 11.

I started learning it when my dad announced he was taking me to Japan to see his brother, and it all started from there. It did get me into anime and manga, but most importantly made me truly crazy about Square Enix games.

The only reason I'm learning Japanese is because I want to experience the culture myself and go to the country without a translator, not because I like anime/manga. Why people don't understand that is beyond me.

Oh! This makes sense... Though I gave up on japanese when my japanese teacher moved back to japan.

Hmmm, well, I'm ½ in on this, because I started reading manga way before learning Japanese, but I don't learn it (solely) for manga/anime ^^
Good point though

Pretty cool.
You got a point there.

But I think that the text changes a bit too fast.
