Description she sparkled against the darkness,
a diamond on velvet.
moving through the wraiths that trembled on the stairs
i approached her,
the perfumed night air
breathing against my face. she stood a little apart
from the other party goers,
her face bathed in the golden light
that cascaded in priceless showers from the fountain.
the light fragmented in her eyes,
marsh fire
in limpid green pools.

her skin was like rose petals,
exuding a breathless warmth as she leaned
against my chest.
we danced,
slow,
ritual circles as i beheld the angel from my nightmare.
silk whispered deliciously at her ankles.
her scent was like the earth
after lightning strikes.

and we talked. her voice,
lilting like wind chimes,
pretty and hollow.
the longer i stayed, the more those blazing emeralds dimmed,
becoming nothing more
than glassy, fragile things, speckled with the artificial colours
of fairy lights.
the smell of roses,
cloying and sickly,
forced me away. so i continued my search
for truth among the jeweled gypsies.
