Description Edit: 09/09/10
New version of the colors... a little bit closer to what I want, but still not "done" yet. More to come!

Download for the full effect!
I need to clean up some of the coloring still, but probably won't get to it until a bit later.

aka:
"Zerg Barbie"
"If I was the Queen of Blades"
"A Promising Career"

I bought Starcraft II the day after release, but I've probably been drawing more than playing. This is a character based on an idea that I thought was funny after playing through the campaign.

The "Queen of Shades" was a flunking fashion major in a terran community college who was accidentally recruited by the zerg after they mistook her for somebody who was actually important. Her name is Starla Dangerfield. She really likes pink.

--------------------------------------

This is obviously not a Blizzard idea, but the Starcraft/Starcraft II games and related characters/material are Blizzard copyright. I don't seek to make any money off this, just a few laughs and some satisfaction.

--------------------------------------

I will probably update this later when I inevitably feel the need to fix up some of the coloring further!

I don't think the bow is anatomically correct.

Super awesome on the use of color, and I really enjoy the little details like the collar on the creature to her right and the "love you" message.

As far as crits go, some of the colors, especially on Starla, tend to confuse the shading due to different brightness values versus color saturation. I kind of wish she was more of a focal point, with some greater contrast between her and the background monster in particular; it possibly being more of a looming from the darkness sort of feature. Lovely work though, and really looks like you put some great effort into it.

That "looming in the darkness" thing was my original intent... I am actually glad to hear someone else mention it! It proved to be very difficult to make the "background monster" dark and the background dark as well, especially since I have a hard line separating the two.

I've never tried to color something so large before. I wanted to make the light source somewhere off-canvas in the upper right corner. Do you think that if I tried to put more emphasis on the direction of the light, that it might make each one of the characters a little more distinct?

Thanks for the crit, by the way. I always appreciate in-depth feedback!

A more directional light would provide a bit more delineation between subjects, if only because of the way you'd be able to push the fall of their shadows between each figure. I think perhaps some push to increase/decrease saturation with depth/z-axis distance in the image would also help really separate the characters and the background.

Wow!
These colors are beautiful! It's a shame that I do not know much about Starcraft or have ever played it.
VERY nice job!
