This is the flag of the territory known in Greater Terraria as Valkyri. Valkyri's flag is seen as a Traditionalist relic, a lookback to their old world. Blue, white and red are believed to be the colours of the Ancient Valkyri. In Valkyri culture, Blue traditionally represents Pride. White represents both Nationalism and Peace (Valkyri prides itself on its Nationalism), and Red typically represents Freedom and Social Order. However, this flag separates itself from its predecessor by including a new coat of arms. Featuring two eagles, holding the symbols of the sceptre and the philosopher's stone, which represent the nobility and the intellectuality of the Valkyrian people. In the centre is the hammer, resembling the productivity of the Valkyri region, followed by two horizontal swords, representing Unity and Strength, respectively. The former is now seen as hinting towards their close links with neighbouring regions in the Polis Confederation. Lastly, is the golden text at the top of the coat of arms, which is simply Valkyri in the traditional tongue of the Valkyri people. A version of the flag without this text exists, however, it is used for more informal purposes.

Prior to the Great Happening 1000 years ago, Valkyri was one of the largest superpowers to function on Terraria. The style of government was something similar to that of a Holy Soviet. However, it was a major contributor towards what many perceived to be the end of mankind's dominance. Demand for resources grew, and Valkyri require plenty of them. Sadly, so did other nations. As the situation destabilised, only the most perceptive were truly prepared for the impending nuclear war.

Besides the highest power figures in government, only the truly perceptive or perhaps, the most paranoid were ready for what was to come. Whilst Valkyri itself was left relatively unharmed, barring several warheads. However, it was the severe nuclear winter which spelled doom for the nation. Now realising the extent, those still alive from the exchange made their way underground. Fortunately, Valkyri had one of the largest metro systems in the world, meaning that many could find safe refuge underground. Several metro stations founded their own governments. Unfortunately, this resulted in tribalism returning, and skirmishes were frequent.

As the centuries progressed, Valkyri was able to head up to the surface, and regroup with neighbouring states. Seeking a new beginning, those with the highest lust for power in Valkyri quickly expanded their political influence and merged with several neighbouring states to create the Confederation of Polis Republics. Valkyri enjoys a position of power similar to that of Prussia in the North German Confederation (if you wish to compare it to real life historical scenarios). However, many are detracted from migrating to Valkyri due to its obscenely harsh winter, and partly as a result of the Polis Confederation retaining an isolationist viewpoint to outsiders. Polis has its own issues to solve, and many feel an influx of foreigners will only contribute to that problem.

Despite this questionable bout of xenophobia, Valkyri has provoked the interest of Emperor Shen of the Grand Noosterrarian Imperium. He admires the tough exterior of the people, and sees both Valkyri and Polis as a whole as a stepping stone towards expanding his great empire. However, with regards to having to deal with a resilient Federation, Shen believes that Butter diplomacy will be a better alternative to using guns. Even with his Noosefires and revitalised weaponry at his disposal, Shen would prefer to win their trust before marching in, guns blazing.
