Description I tried my best to make her resemble as little of Alexis Bledel as possible. She's a gret actress, but I read this book in 5th grade years before the movie came out.

My teacher who made us read this has passed away since. He was 30 years old when he died of AIDS. If it wasn't for him, I would NOT be who I am today. IF it wasn't for him, I'd never do my homework, I'd never have done a lot of things to become a better person.

This story had a quote that was the main theme of the book.

"It doesn't matter how LONG you live, but HOW you live." ~Tuck Everlasting

This quote is the embodiment of my teacher. I originally drew this for Mike, but thought a lot about my teacher when I finished it. This is how I always portrayed Winnifred Foster to look like.

(For those of you not sure about the story -this is Winnie, sitting by the spring of water that's supposedely the "Fountain of Youth". ) This is a wonderful book that I've never gotten tired of. Read it if you want or watch the movie -that was a close resemblance to the book.

(Oh, and about that slash going across the picture... I sent this in for a contest -last minute entry. My original entry ...I, uhm... glued to a book cover by accident that night, so I decided to just send this in. Well, when they returned it, someone had drawn this gash across the center. I am mad about it... but oh well.)

Enjoy?

Your Winnie is....brilliant. i love the way that she looks older then ten (like she is in the movie) but still looks very childlike.
also the details - the music box, the bottle of water, the watch for time....a beautiful picture

oh, beautiful. i love the detail, like the little music box down there in the corner. personally, i like your winnie foster better than the movie's depiction, and i don't think the gash really takes away from the picture too much.

Lol, it's really easy to read, so you should be done in no time. It's not one of those "oh go and read it" and it takes a whole bunch of time out of your day. So... ^^ and it's really touching.

(Wow, thanks for... describing my own drawing to me? xD I'm such an airhead sometimes when it comes to my own work. I love hearing what other people see though.

A wise artist learns not to see with his\her own eyes, but learns to preceive beauty through the eyes of others as well. This is the true component of success.

Lol -that's cool. I do that a lot too. No matter how good a book is, my ADD kicks in. I have to read some pulitzer book... they're sooooo boring!!! Now in November was good, but the moral... well, it ended by talking about how the farmers had a hard life, and that the protagonists realizes her future is really crappy because she's going to get all the brudens of being a farmer in debt, and prob. end up like her crazy dad.

Anyway, enjoy Tuck!

and that weirdo book was called "Now in November"

(Lol; Billy and Mandy are awesome!!! cartoon network is still fun to watch! 'Cept Hi hi puffy ami yumi... they CAN'T sing... it's a cute show sometimes tho...) Mmm... it was a great book -and a good movie... Did you read Bridge to Terribithia? That book was also... excellent beyound all words. It's just... something you only have to read once -because it stays with you forever.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tbird-dove In reply to PokeShoppe [2006-02-15 02:43:18 +0000 UTC]

I love Billy and Mandy. ^_^ Although... I know Billy is supposed to be annoying by his characterization and all, but... oh my goodness... sometimes I just have to change the channel. Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi is okay; you're right about the singing, and their plots tend to be weak... but still, it's fun. ^^ Hm... I think I liked the book better than the movie. It seemed to me that in the movie there was a bit much emphasis on that little romance.... but it's a movie, so that happens. No, I've never read Bridge to Terribithia, but I definitely will now. My curse as a book lover is that every time I walk into a library I end up walking out with a book that isn't on my little list! And I'm supposed to be reading Great Expectations by Charles Dickens for English... I got ten chapters ahead of everyone to be safe and then I kind of started book hopping and... well, I'm not ahead anymore. Ah, well. My newest book hopping incident is on a book called Deep. I really don't know anything about the plot because there wasn't a blurb on the book jacket... what can I say, the cover and title jumped at me. I know I'll love it, though. ^_^ You can feel that sort of thing. Well... I should probably do my homework... how did it get to be 8:40? >.< Oh dear...

OMG... Great Expectations! I HATE that book! I HATE it along with the scarlet letter! I Hate those with a burnign passion! xD

I know what you mean for all of those, though! The romance... true, over exaggerated, but it's touching, nevertheless. And I'm supposed to be reading a pulitzer winner book, but I went to Branes and Nobles, and found Aesop's Fables and Grimm's tales and a book of Emily Dickonson's poetry...so... forget that. xD

Lol, sorry that i comment so much and kept you from your work, btw ;

tbird-dove In reply to PokeShoppe [2006-02-20 02:50:11 +0000 UTC]

Aw, really? I like Great Expectations, except for HAVING to read it for school. The old English is kind of fun... although sometimes it makes my brain hurt. I haven't read the Scarlet Letter yet.

Yeah, you're right. Maybe too much emphasis, but it is nice. ^_^ Oooh... I love Emily Dickenson's poetry! I haven't read much of it, but I definitely will read more (oh the list... one of these days I'll suffocate under it's weight. 0_o) I love Barnes and Nobles. It has to be my favorite book store. ^_^ Ordinarily I don't have favorite things, but... it's too great! Out of curiousity, do you remember the title of the book you're reading for school? With the other books you have I probably wouldn't be reading it either, lol.

Oh, no, it's okay. I keep myself from my work... I really can't blame anything else but me. If I wasn't on the internet I'd have been doing something else... at least this is constructive in a way, right? I hardly ever do my homework, even though when tests come around or when questions are asked in class I have the answers. Especially in Spanish class. It's so easy, but the homework is time consuming so I didn't finish it and then when she went over it in class I knew more about it than the people who did it! Grr... curse my procrastination... I'm fixing it, though.

PokeShoppe In reply to tbird-dove [2006-02-24 02:44:29 +0000 UTC]

I HATE the scarlet letter. x___X;;; And yes, hate is such a strong word, which is why it automatically comes to mind in reference to the scarlet letter.

Anyhpw, you've just reminded me i bought that book! I'm going to read it tonight and get some better writing tips! I've been reading an aesop's fable's book, and I just read this story about a guy who bought a black guy, and thought he was just really dirty, which is why he was black, so he went and he scrubbed the black guy, but couldn't get him clean and so the black guy died 'cause he caught a cold from taking so many baths. xD NO moral whatsoever. Yep. And worse yet, it was told in that fashion of context -spooky, yes?

And that's okay... I have a crapload of homework, but I'm taking a break. xD

tbird-dove In reply to PokeShoppe [2006-02-24 04:00:21 +0000 UTC]

Wow... weird! Are you sure there isn't a moral hidden in there somewhere? I mean...... ho'kay, I can't find one. And I thought every Aesop Fable was supposed to have a moral. Oh well. One of my friends was doing this play in Theatre class with Aesop in it... she played this crow and... well, I didn't read the whole play or anything, but all these animals came in with problems to Aesop and on one he just said something like "Sometimes one begrudges another his happiness" or something and the crow got mad at him because he was just going to leave it like that. He was sitting there writing it down and the crow was making all these wise remarks about it. >.< lol Oh dear Aesop...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PokeShoppe In reply to tbird-dove [2006-03-18 11:14:03 +0000 UTC]

OH, the moral was "don't try to change things".... yea. I guess i was too distracted by the story. But Aesop was indeed quite brilliant... his ideas may have been a little farfetched or eccentric, but you know... genius genius.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tbird-dove In reply to PokeShoppe [2006-03-22 03:16:44 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... lol, okay that makes sense, then. ^^ Aesop is brilliant of course; I just like to make fun of him. It's good natured, though. I loved this one thing he said in that play... I can't remember it exactly but it was something about how people will refuse to let someone have something even though they aren't using it and it was so perfectly said... oh well. People like him just make me feel dwarfed reading things... how can they be so dang good with such simple things and how can anyone top it? >.< So I guess that's just a twisted form of jealousy... Ah, heck with it! "C'mere Jealousy, old buddy!!" *hugs jealousy* ...I'm so evil. v.v

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PokeShoppe In reply to tbird-dove [2006-03-28 10:16:28 +0000 UTC]

Lmao. Cute! I know, jealousy is very alluring though, don't you agree? Well, heck, you're hugging the damn thing. Jealousy has prompted me to do many things. One of which was to become a better person. They say nothing feeds a fire like envy... it's just feeding the right fire.

And yes, Aesop is a genius!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tbird-dove In reply to PokeShoppe [2006-05-21 02:03:36 +0000 UTC]

It really is. Lol, yep, jealousy is an everyday thing so why not hug it and be friends? You're right, too. It isn't like all fires are bad. After all, they've been keeping people warm and cooking their food for centuries. Fire needs to eat, too. Lol, bit of a strange phrase there...
