I agree with most of what you said... My only defences are the following: Number one: I was using the smallest brush. o_0 My stock images are quite low resolution which makes daring manes very annoying as you can't get thin enough strands. My manes have always sucked though, so that's not much of an excuse...

The other is that I like it without the stray strands. *folds arms stubbornly* It's just my messed up opinion. Lol! I was simply following the mane on the original photo.

lol, now now polo, the best bit of graphics is how you can bend the original to a more crazy or whatever look. Fun stuff

Also no, your manes have not always 'sucked' in fact they don't now : \

Oaa, well thats not good 0_o do you work with the full sized one when drawing the mane? If not, then you can't cheat a thinner mane look, as when you resize you shrink the little hairs on the horsies head and hind

Also a quick tip with DA, when you reply it is best to hit the reply button by the comment, opening a new box for you to type in and allowing the other deviant to see you replied ( :

Ah, I see! Lol! I'm a DA doofus so... *snickers*


I do work with them at full size, but the picture was only 1600 x 1200 to start with and it was quite far out so the horse was pretty small... That made it pretty hard to work with. I'm sure I'll find a way one day... The mane on this one was annoying me. I just couldn't get it right... It was one of those moments where you can try everything and nothing seems to work. When that happens I lose patience and give up pretty quickly.

Know exactly what you mean. I send up shouting at the computer screen saying "work fool work" Then hell lets loose when I delete all the mane layers 0_o tails are odly easier "/

oaaa, was looking at deviations and this popped out at me I was like oaaa who made this as I clicked on it and quickly read the name.. polo! well polo this is a really eye catching image, and not just saying that

Now for the annoying yet oh so loved (well I love to get it... but you know.. thats me xD) bit, critique

Okay polo rolo (I like eating both of them ) When drawing manes and tails use the smallest brush at the ends and the tips, and had a few strands not a lot coming around the ear as stray hairs always happen *pats own hair, realizes it is currently a bush right now and drops hand*. The cutting in some areas is a bit iffy, but the cutting o the front hoof is the biggest offender there . Try not to blur under the neck on such a high opacity and lastly I shall finished on the shadow, needs to be a bit bigger to fit the horse and paler and 'blurry' to fit the darker scene.

I hate giving critique but knows it is very helpful to get so I give it ^^ Now... I'm off to find my purple monkey.. I am hungry...

Hmmm... My personal opinion is that it would look unrealistic if the mane came over the ear because of the flow of the mane. I made it so that it was flowing forward, blowing in a clump between the ears... My personal opinion is that it's better not going around. My smudging on the forelock is very bad though. I should have been more careful there but I got lazy... Also, the hooves are too deep in the grass but I was too lazy to recreate them. The rose is at a kind of funny angle... Those are the flaws most apparent to me.

I like it, though my tiny crit point is some of the mane//forelock would cover the ear aswell...Sowwi xP
