Description Well, I haven't posted anything in a LONG time, so I thought I'd post some of my light and shadow photography I've been studying using some 7" figures of horror movie icons.

This first one is using the Mezco Toyz 7" Jason from the Cinema Of Fear series of figures. This Jason is based off his appearance in the WORST installment of the Friday the 13th film series; Jason Goes To Hell...but it's a DAMNED great toy!

I lit this in a totally blacked out room, and the lighting is actually from the LCD TV while I was watching the Abyss. The blue underwater scenes cast this eerie blue light across the figure and gave it a rather impressionist look. I really love how you get more of a hint of hockey mask and dead skin and ravaged and damaged clothing...oh, and a big honking machete too. I had some that were just shots of the head, but I didn't think I could get away without showing the machete as well. Out of about...40 some odd pictures taken, this is my favorite.

Yeah it was XD I have a Fangoria from that time and reading the article the film makers REALLY were enthusiastic that that film, was exactly what the fans wanted and went on about how awesome it was going to be....and say what you want about Jason X, Freddy VS Jason or the remake...Jason goes to Hell was a train wreck XD Worst Jason film. It was practically a fan made film in terms of looks and writing, just with a higher budget XD But thanks. As bad as the movie was I DO love this figure XD

I actually somewhat enjoyed the three last films. Yes, they were crap but I still got into them in a way.

I enjoyed Jason X and Jason Takes Manhattan and New Blood and Freddy VS Jason a lot. Jason Goes to Hell didn't have much Jason in it, the blobbly demon jumping bodies was terrible and the ending was a mess. Of course the ending could have been a LOT worse if the deleted scenes are any indication but I did like how Jason looked in the film. XD

Even Kane Hodder, the almighty Jason stuntman, actually hated 'The Final Friday'. That says a lot.

Not too surprised there. he barely was Jason at all. When he was he got blown up right away and when he was returned at the end he got his ass handed to him then on top of that his cameo was short and there were other people trying to play jason only as "normal" people and all they did was try to act like Kane and fail at it XD It was terrible.

Thanks! ^_^ I really wanted to see if I could get the realism of the toy to translate well. I know that NECA toys has more photo-realistic figures in their line, but I just bought this one and I wanted to give it a try XD And yeah, i have to agree that part 9 was just...just horrible XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrewHobart In reply to Police-Box-Traveler [2009-01-25 12:30:49 +0000 UTC]

The lighting worked well, I think it's funny that it came from the movie. I like this image because you try to capture Jason rather then the toy. NECA is really good at scuplts and making their toys realistic. I don't have NECA Part 9 Jason...yet but I do have the older version by Mcfarlane and the difference in scuplt is just...wow.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-01-26 04:33:41 +0000 UTC]

Well, this one is the Mezco Toyz figure, lol, I suppose I should have said that I have NECA toys that are more photo realistic, but that this MEZCO toy figure was one that I just picked up and wanted to use instead. XD But yeah, the old MacFarlane figure is just so inaccurate XD From the neck down, it's a part 8, fro the neck up, it's a HIGHLY inaccurate part 9/generic Jason figure XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrewHobart In reply to Police-Box-Traveler [2009-01-27 10:25:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I know what you mean about how unrealistic the scuplt is on the MacFarlane toy, at the time that was it and because of that I thought it was sweet. I still like the toy even it's dated compared to NECA toys. The fact that Jason merc is doing so well is just...cool. When I got into Friday the 13th there was really no merc...so it's nice to see all the stuff coming out. In the end it was a good choice for the photo.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-01-29 03:44:02 +0000 UTC]

Well, I think we ALL felt that way about MacFarlanes stuff in the beginning. After all, it was the first true action figure like of horror film icons and there was very little to compare it too. NECA I think took things to a much higher level, bt in the end I think they suffer from something MacFarlane did, that was very pose-specific articulation and sculpt. They put a lot of articulation into a statue that will look silly in almost any other position but the one it was sculpted to be in. Mezco Toyz definately sacrificed sculpt for articulation and they toys are a lot more fun. Also, mezco has been adding to the realism in each subsequent line. Really a good move on their part.

And thank you ^_^ I'm really glad you liked it ^_^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrewHobart In reply to Police-Box-Traveler [2009-01-29 11:52:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it true that we all felt that way about MacFarlanes stuff...up to a point. I think NECA took of where McFarlane finshed in terms of articulation...But they sure had better sculpts. I also think the big Jason with the KA KA HA HA sound is the best Jason so far. As for Mezco not only was the articulation a hell of a lot better then anything else we have gotten before, We also got a crap load of accessories. The scuplts are as good as NECA if not better. The thing I like is the fact they are trying different merc with Jason which is nice. I hope they keep putting more articulation in to the Jason toys...man I would love a Marvel Legends style Jason.

I'm sure I'll get the 7" Jason don't know if I'll bother with the bigger one. I'm not sure about the bigger one...seems to be the same as the smaller one, so I don't see the point.

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-02-01 10:20:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I only want the smaller 7" figures myself. if NECA ever reduces the scale of their 19" like they did with the part 7 Jason I MAY buy it. Still, I haven't seen any in the stores yet. i'm hoping they'll release them in time with the film release.

Nice, nice it's alwasy good to give random kids nightmares. I went to my brothers girlfriends birthday party as jason, It's a lot easyer to scare people when your Jason you just move slowly and use your eyes to freak people out. Their was a kid their who would freak any time i came near, I slowly took off my costume bit by bit to show him who I was and by the end of the night he was fine with it. On the bright side of being Freddy you can have more fun becasue you can talk.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-02-11 07:34:20 +0000 UTC]

Yes, talking helps. there was this one brave little lad that after passing me to get to the doors of my sisters house and after being asked if Freddy scared him, the brave little lad said defiantly and probably more bravado than he felt "I'm not afraid of Freddy! This isn't Elm Street"...problem was that I was right behind him...well, i popped out from behind him like a nightmare and said "Every street is MY street!" and after he opened his eyes wide enough for them to fall out while holding up a Styrofoam cleaver, I waved my all metal REAL Freddy glove, wiggling my fingers to fan the blades and told him "See you in your DREAAAAAAAAMS!" to which he promptly started to cry XD good times!

Heheheheh...Nice, nice it's It’s always go to giving kids nightmares, Real Freddy glove? Home made or bought? Man that sure is the up side to being Freddy is being able to talk.

I went to the public Hospital as Jason because my mum had asked to see my costume before I went to my Christmas party, Yep I went to my Christmas party as Jason. It cracked a lot of people up, I got pick with mum [link] . While I as at the party I would stand behind people and wait for them to turn around and freak them out, I also danced in full costume…I almost hyperventilated…yeah not my smartest idea. I did The Rocky Horror picture show, let’s do the time warp song as Jason, I also recorded the KA KA HA HA on my phone and put it in my pocked and let play in a loop which wearied people out a lot.

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-02-12 03:31:13 +0000 UTC]

Not bad! Yes, you'd make a decent Jason. If I could get a hold of you, I could make you a costume that would scare the living HELL out of people. I actually have a mask that is molded from a screen used hockey mask XD It's in the background of this picture here [link]

As for my glove, it's not a store bought piece, it's hand made XD You can see that here [link] and here [link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrewHobart In reply to Police-Box-Traveler [2009-02-13 06:28:39 +0000 UTC]

I looked at the mask, I really want it! I also looked at the other images of your costumes and I now think you could make a scarey costume. The only intresting thing I can saw about mine is that I made it in a couple of hours.

You made that! man it's really good I mean it's looks like the real thing. I think you win in terms of who would scare little childeren.

If I was wearing a hate I would take it off to you sir!

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-02-13 07:58:20 +0000 UTC]

It's not a bad mask for $30 bucks really. It's a tad thin but it gets the job done I think.

I love making scary costumes. My Halloween suit last year was fun. I hadn't done that suit for years XD

Really, you could be a great Jason for less than $100 bucks. If you lived nearby I could show you how, but I live in MA so it's a bit hard. I'd only be able to show you where to get the right mask and such really.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrewHobart In reply to Police-Box-Traveler [2009-02-15 01:23:20 +0000 UTC]

$30 bucks really? where did you get it?

See that's something I can never do is celebrate Halloween because we don’t celebrate that holiday in OZ.
Still it would be nice to be able to have a day to dress up.

As much as I would love that, living in Australia makes that kinda hard. I’m really tempted by this [link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-02-15 01:50:42 +0000 UTC]

Ebay XD just search for "Hockey Mask" and you can find some great stuff.

Damn! That does suck. i would have thought it would be even more bad assed down there for halloween...but you don't do Halloween down there? wierd. XP

Don't do that mask. you can seriously get better ones for less off of ebay...just don't bother with actual fiberglass ones.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrewHobart In reply to Police-Box-Traveler [2009-02-16 00:26:38 +0000 UTC]

I've yet to join Ebay but I shall have a look.

People still dress up but in a really half arsed way, people don't tend to put the effort in. The reason I don't dress up is it's not an Aussie holiday so I don't bother. I don't get a real chance to dress up so I just get dress up for random stuff...just for the hell of it.

Really I would have thought it would have been good? I mean it says that it just took a cased of the original from the movie.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-02-16 01:02:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it may be cast off a screen used mask, but the paints are manufactured so each look the same. NECA uses silk screening type paints so you can actually see pixels on the blood spatters. they do this to keep costs low and then they charge higher whereas you can get a hand painted one of a kind for less than $100 and it will look a hundred times better cause an artist did it themselves by hand. Really, just find one made of heavy PVC molded in white and hand decorated. You can even find auctions on ebay that have them so you can decide what features you want, damage, red triangles, the hatchet cut in the forehead and even the strap style. believe me, you'll be MUCH happier then the licensed crap XD

Damn, too bad, cause Australia would be a fun place to dress up like Jason at XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrewHobart In reply to Police-Box-Traveler [2009-02-17 03:18:42 +0000 UTC]

Wow...I never knew that about the masks, man I'm really going to join ebay now that's for sure. I can't believe that I can get a better cheaper mask off ebay...that's really sad that the offical one is not up to scrach.

It can be fun to dress up here but some Australians can be a bit up tight, they find it hard to deal with a dude dressing up as Jason for no other reason then to see a movie. For the most part people love it, I also tend to dress up in the morning and just walk around untill the movie starts.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-02-17 04:42:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's amazing how cheap they make the production masks. [link]

you can get a good look at the rush strokes and cheap smudging and thin straps there. It may be a good mold, but that's about it and it's not worth the $130 price range.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrewHobart In reply to Police-Box-Traveler [2009-02-18 11:54:15 +0000 UTC]

Wow I never new how cheap you can get them.

I know I look on line and you're right you can get a better mask cheaper but I really prefer official licensed stuff even its worse then getting a fan made one. Just knowing that it’s really Friday the 13th merc makes a big difference to me. I know it seems a little silly but what can you do.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Police-Box-Traveler In reply to AndrewHobart [2009-02-21 06:55:10 +0000 UTC]

I never prefer official licensed things. they do them so cheaply and are usually inaccurate. I never found a Freddy glove that was officially licensed that looked good for anything except a stunt glove for movies. See, thing is, the props in the films are hand made, one of a kind and they can never capture that with manufactured replicas. My Freddy glove was made by a guy that knows Robert Englund and is produced to be a fully functional replica. Better than any copper plated aluminum officially licensed glove XD

See this makes perfect sense I can undersatnd why you prefer hand made stuff. Still it's just that's offiacal, know that makes a big difference to how much I get out of it. It's silly and makes no sense when it comes to this stuff but what can you do. Damn you were lucky to get that guy to make you one.
