Description maybe you don't know what FF VII is, maybe you don't know what Crisis Core is, and most importantly, perhaps you don't know what Dirge of Cerberus is, but let me tell you how this all works:
The awesomeness that is Crisis Core is counterbalanced in the FF7 universe only by the abomination that is Dirge of Cerberus. I hate it. I hate it for what it could have, should have been, instead of the steaming pile of crap that was delivered in it's stead. I have chosen to actively negate its existence from my personal perspective, and any reminder of it could bring terrible and frightening repercussions.

I haven't played any Spawn-of-Final-Fantasy games. Sure, I've played FFVII through to X-2 (I suppose that's spawn of a sort) and XII, as well as a teensy bit of VI , but I haven't even seen The D Game around. I've heard of Crisis Core, but haven't seen that around either. I suppose I may be somewhat protected from any dissapointments in that way Is Crisis Core as good as you had hoped?

it is pretty good, there are some repetitive grind elements that occur, but I think that's really just caused by my own over leveling tendencies. Over all though, it is a very engaging game, with no dealbreakers.

Ah yes. World of Warcraft has taught me how to grind - I have that skill under my belt.

Yesterday I tried playing Dirge of Cerberus for the first time in a few months, to see if it got better after doing FF7 and AC again.

It didn't. Every cutscene fills me with violent nausea and rage because FF7 is so much better than that game. I'm still clinging to the idea that humanity dies after Holy, just because I can't handle how bad the sequels have been (though I haven't played Crisis Core yet).

polive In reply to ryotakishu [2008-04-28 18:28:02 +0000 UTC]

well, humanity COULD still have died after holy, since Crisis Core is a prequel.

I like the video quality and the cutscenes of DoC, but the gameplay was terrible. I had it done in 8 hours (inc. cuts) and I'd never tried a shooting game before.

Haven't played Crisis Core yet.

yeah, the only thing I regret about not playing the game through was missing all those cutscenes....

cherri202 In reply to polive [2008-04-28 11:30:42 +0000 UTC]

They should have made in into a movie instead. I just played it through purely to watch the cutscenes.

I'm trying to finish XII still, at least it lasts a bit longer than the-Vincent-focused-VII-spinoff-that-shan't-be-named

Dirge of Cerberus could have been so much better if they gave the mechanics of the game to someone else to do.

In my opinion, Dirge of Cerberus would have been better as a movie and Advent Children as a game.

I love the fact that your eyes explode at the name of that game.

that might be true. Though I don't know about the story of DoC since I never finished it.

I've been a hardcore fan of ffvii since it was released with it's "amazing new graphics" Oooo! ^^ ..I didn't have the heart to play dirge of the cerebus - I waited 3 years for ff7:ac - and I still need to pick up crisis core, but it looked good..hmm

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

polive In reply to Jendara [2008-04-27 20:12:29 +0000 UTC]

there are similarities between the 2 games, but crisis core fills in everything that dirge lacked, and lacks all the unless crap that dirge had. Skip dirge, but you should definitely give crisis a try.

where did you end up buying yours? I found one online (yay youtube) but it was only around 12ish minutes, so I'm hoping that wasn't the entire movie :S (p.s. I love your comics...hilarious as always! )

MadamJuggernaut In reply to polive [2008-04-27 21:38:15 +0000 UTC]

I'd advise against playing it, yeah. Chrono Trigger is an entity unto itself, and my playing Chrono Cross simply made me Very Angry that they tried to even call it a "sequel". D:

Karzeen In reply to MadamJuggernaut [2008-06-11 17:24:25 +0000 UTC]

Well I mean it isn't a sequel, but I found it to be enjoyable. Playing it now is like plaing Legends (Is that spelled correctly?)of Dragoon, a nice toss back to the older RPG. And plus, it had fairly pleasing character development and transitions, it was no FFVII, but it was a lot like FFXII to me, a nice game that wasn't perfect but still enjoyable to play.

Yes! I didn't know what Crisis Core was, but I had the misfortune of renting Dirge of Cerberus. I expected a complex rpg, and it's like crappy simple first person shooter. I gave it a shot, but it was way too boring. Huge disappointment. Glad I'm not the only one!
