Description Real Name: Svetlana 'Svetta' Adam
Occupation: Adventurer, Former Theoretical Physicist
Based In:
Mobile
Origins: In 1945, Dr. Svetta Adam was part of a Allied research team developing an alternative to the atom bomb using exotic energies from a crashed alien spaceship. One of the weapons being developed took advantage of the newly discovered "Uber Rays". The Uber Bomb was capable of affecting targets on an atomic level and, with some work, could be programmed to target organic matter exclusively. However, the project was sabotaged from within and the entire research team was thought destroyed by their own weapon. Ten years later, Dr. Adam was able to reform herself. The radiation hadn't killed her like her colleagues, but instead changed her into a being of pure energy. Armed with strange new powers, she was blackmailed and forced into service for the US government thanks to doctored photos showing Adam to have caused the accident in the first place. Decades pass and Captain Atom has been through many trials. A rival turned enemy called Major Force, growing resentment of the source of her strength, and a mysterious new villain known as the Monarch. But as the 21st century takes shape, will Captain Atom be able to continue as one of the world's mightiest heroes? Will she ever be able to prove Dr. Adam's innocence? Or will the atomic hero only ever be just that?
Powers: Having total control of her atomic structure and the Uber energies within, Captain Atom can fire energy blasts of various types, fly, and lift up to 100 tons. She also possess the limited ability to alter matter.
Weaknesses: As time goes on, Svetta must take greater measure to maintain her humanity. Daily meditation is a must if she is to resist the careless indifference that comes with her new perspective. Captain Atom also relies on a sturdy containment suit to keep her energies contained. If it were breached, she would be forced to repair it or risk being incapacitated for several days.

A last minute entry in TheStonemiester1 's Multiverse contest. Super busy December.

Goddamn... who'd you turn into Major Force?

Though funny enough, I already did Monarch .

I didn't think too far ahead on that. More of a draw now, ask questions later type deal.

And I saw that. I liked how you went outside the box with your entries. I saw Monarch and was a bit surprised, especially since I was thinking Captain Atom.

Well, ours are two very different versions of Monarch (especially since I was focused on Armageddon 2001 for the source material), so I think they can coexist.

Hell, maybe your version is the one that recruited from an alternate universe to fight the Monitors (far left): comicvine.gamespot.com/images/…

I had a few ideas for my version of Monarch, not totally sure. But I promise that if I settle on a backstory and you guess it, I won't change my mind at the last minute and make him future Hawk.
But hey, could be the Monarch from Countdown. I can see evil Captain Atom taking time to mess with an alternate version of himself.

She has a nice healthy glow to her.

Fun and sexy alternative version of one of DC's under-used characters.

Thanks. Atomic heroes need a bit of a shine to them.

Huh... Don't really know Cap Atom too well, but is his story really THAT...uh...Doctor Manhattanish?

It is fairly superficial. After DC prevented the Charlton comic characters being used in Watchmen, they integrated them into the then rebooted DCU of the 1980's, Captain Atom received the most radical overhaul, with his powers changed ( being derived from the quantum field after being bonded to the alien Dilustel 'metal' ) origin altered ( now an Airforce Captain with military experience rather than a scientist ) and a striking costume redesign.

As a character Cap shares more with Superman than Dr Manhattan, his personality defined by his humanity and flaws in spite of his vast power. Back in the New 52 reboot of 2011 DC tried to make him more like Dr Manhattan but it just didn't work.

Did you read the Fall and Rise of Captain Atom that came out recently? I enjoyed that quite a bit. Makes me wish he had an ongoing series.

I did read it, it was a welcome effort by the original writers of the DC version to restore his personality and quantum field powerset, but i felt they respected the New 52 version more than i would have liked and i felt it a pity that Cap no longer has a daughter to balance the resentful son.

Still they have provided a character who is now more usable in guest appearances which is good and set up things for other writers to work with. I'm also hoping for a ongoing or mini series where the red metal skin design will shift back to his classic and more heroic silver red and blue colours.

Yeah, I do miss the dynamic between Adam, his two different children, and Eiling. But I think they could have that come back in a way. I can see Eiling trying to act like a second father to Adam's son just to try and better control his own Captain Atom Jr.

I kinda like the red. I don't think it beats the blue and red, but I'm definitely okay with it. I'm hoping that if he doesn't get another series, they could at least put him in a Justice League book.

Actually, Doctor Manhattan is very Captain Atom. All of the Watchmen characters are based on Charlton Comics characters that DC bought. Manhattan is Captain Atom, Rorschach is the Question, Nite Owl is the Blue Beetle, and so on. Alan Moore's story was supposed to feature them, but it got too dark for DC to let it happen, so he created equivalents.
