No, Ventus didn't fall asleep DURING the story. Vanitas started this page with a dream, of the part he didn't tell his baby brother. And it clears up the question of how Kairi's mother actually died as well as putting some emphasis on Ansem's nasti-ness...
As for Ven sucking his thumb... It's cute right? I kind of threw that in there for Ven fangirls... since I made you guys wait a bit longer than I expected I would take.

D'aaawww, seeing Ventus suck his thumb in his sleep is so cute. Suddenly I have a mental image of him doing that in Castle Oblivion in the game. XD

Awww! That's so sweet! Although, I kinda hate that you used Terranort, since I ship Terrqua, but, it does make more sense than using young Xehanort, I'll give you that. I feel bad that you kinda captured her death in a similar way to how she ended up in the Realm of Darkness, and that she's dead, but, someone had to be their mom. Hmm, I wonder if this is the reason I became a Vanitas FANGIRL? It WAS the first time I ever saw him until I found out who he actually was about a year ago, and when I found out, I did feel bad for him, and felt he was misunderstood, heck, I stil feel that way, and when he removes his mask in the game, and I pause it, or if I look at screenshots of him with his mask off, I'll just stare at his eyes, sometimes for hours, and I don't see one drop of evil, nope! I see fear, misery, heartache, loneliness, self hate, low self esteem, guilt, sorrow, ect. I see someone like me, someone who does bad things because they think if others are miserable, they'll feel better, someone who always needs someone to be there for them when times are hard, but rarely ever has someone, someone who needs friends, but doesn't know how to be a good one, someone who wakes up every signal day wondering why they woke up when there's no point in even being alive, someone who goes through the day, either wanting to be alone, or just existing while no one gives a care about them, someone who sees the self as a weak pathetic person who should just die! I have a few friends, but it's a mirical I do and that some of them stand by me, even if I do something stupid, or get in serious trouble... Or, sometimes, even... Hurt them... I don't see myself as someone who deserves to have friends, but I do and I'm thankful for it, and that have have some of the most loyal ones ever, who don't care if I make a mistake, or accidentally hurt them, and that will either share, or take the blame for what I did, even if they had aboslutly nothing to do with it, I wish Vanitas had that chance, maybe, that's why I ship him with me, or my KH/Disney version of me, Marcy.
Pew, I seriously can't believe I just spilt the one thing that was reduced to only me, my friends, and my diary online... Oh well, I was going to post it in a story I'm working on anyway, big deal if everyone already knows.

I think, even though Ventus wouldn't like to acknowledge it, Vanitas is everything about himself that is unpleasant. Ven seemed like a very fearful and unsure person before Xehanort did the damage... Vanitas must have turned that into a hatred of himself, motivating himself to be "The better half."
