Description A Dragon's Dogma tribute !
This game is awesome ; I hadn't felt more immersed in a game since Fallout 3. Nothing screams more "ADVENTURE !" than wandering in its forests and face mighty Ogres in it.
You should definetely give it a try if you like epic tales and fantasy.

The characters in this pic, of course, are my mage PC Fanchon Parmentier, and her pawn-protector Goliath.

The realism of travelling is actually what makes it so thrilling.
You really feel like you're going on a real adventure, and not playing any over-powering videogame.

I understand that but can I at lest have a horse or something? I love the night day thing (even know I have a wireless controler and the waiting kills my batteries) and I love everything about the game but when you are on the other side of the map and have few to none positions and two of her pawns are dead it makes you want to cry. (Long story short NEVER run into a drake at night.)

Aha I know, maybe I'm masochistic, but that's what I like about the game. I mean, it's coherent : when you live in a world full of monsters, ANY of them can come out of a random bush and kill you : because that's what monsters do ! xD
You feel more pressured, you pay more attention to what you do, and you feel more involved into the game.

But maybe it's because I had played Dark Souls before, and that Dragon's Dogma feels almost easy compared to it xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ApolloNight In reply to poly-m [2012-12-10 08:12:55 +0000 UTC]

I agree but with all these random bandit and monster attacks its a wonder ANYONE can walk from the shop to their house and not get eaten/robed/stabbed/burned/bitten/crushed/ or all 6.

My fav part about the game is the night part. I actually get a little scared when night falls and I try and find the nearest camp or cave where I can wade out the darkness. I dont even really mind just looking at the screen and doing nothing for the few mins it takes for night to pass, only that my controller runs on batteries. XD

aah, see I raged quit Dark Souls and never started it again, I'm not the strongest gamer out there. XD DD is one of the harder games I've played (until a reached lvl 40, then I started kicking ass and it was glories.)

poly-m In reply to ApolloNight [2012-12-10 08:15:12 +0000 UTC]

Aha, oh, don't worry ! I didn't get past the first boss in Dark Souls either ! xD But I was still glad to play a game that demanded effort and where you were really rewarded when you were good, so DDogma was perfect for that.

And man, you're right, the night is so cool : especially when you stumble upon a Stone Golem and that you litterally have to fight it all night long ! I also really wished you could camp ! That would've made it so much more realistic !

ApolloNight In reply to poly-m [2012-12-10 08:21:21 +0000 UTC]

oooh I now, like Fallout. Thats why I love those games, but like I said I'm really really bad at some of them so I end up cheating and lowering the difficult at some parts. >_> Like with the Drake...at night....didnt help much tho.

I know right! I thought that all the time! Use some of those clothes I have about 20 of and some kindling... boom! Camp. Maybe the next DD, they did way they wanted to make a series outa it.

The only thing its kinda eh on this the story, I dont mind to much tho, It just always makes me giggle when my clearly young child looking Arisen is hit on and forced into a romance with that creepy Duchess. I Need and adult I need an adult! DX

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

poly-m In reply to ApolloNight [2012-12-10 08:46:36 +0000 UTC]

AHAHAHAHA I know that feel, bro !! xD The Duchess was REALLY creepy ! Thankfully I never went to rescue her in the second part of her arc, so I never "completed" her romance. But at the end I was still forced into a romance with the little witch of the woods...What's the deal with girls raping you everywhere, man ?...xD

I agree that the story lacks some..."story-telling". It didn't bother me much because I have a lot of imagination and I love filling the gaps on my own, but I still hope they'll make an effort on that in sequel !

ApolloNight In reply to poly-m [2012-12-10 17:06:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah see I didnt know that at the time, I thought I was just being, you know, a HERO. I save people, its kinda my thing. Didn't matter anyway cuz I ended up replying a good chunk of the game and ended up with the witch girl, which isnt so bad cuz at lest she LOOKS around my PC age. And its vage enough that in my head I can just pretend we're just BFF.

Yep me too, thats why I love RPG, I like filling in the blanks in my head, thats why Skyrim didnt brother me much eather. But at lest that game had characters you're WILLING to die for, Fallout 3 even more so. 9 times outa 10 my head canon is better then any weak back story they make up for your RPG PC. When I found out the Arisn's really back story I got kinda sad. :C

Ah, that duchess...If you don't want that don't do her next rescue quest, trust me. You'll thank me later. I have a feeling you'll like Valmiro. He was my choice because he was from the village and was the Arisen's other childhood friend that we don't learn about because he doesn't have breasts

I really liked him because he wanted to adventure, but was too weak to even get past the fort like five minutes away from the village. He's very cute and wimpy, and funny! And I actually found that him and Julien were really the only in depth male characters in the game XD

Oh I'll definetely stay 10,000 miles away from that dutchess, dont worry.

For Valmiro, I think I had a quest to save him but it has been cancelled by me doing the main quest, so I think I wont see him again, sadly ! But I dont really intend to do more of the romances, I have Goliath anyway !

I played DD and I still say that it is one of the BEST games I ever played but one of the WORSTS too.
I really love the combat system and how big the pressure is when you wander at night and all of a sudden a Chimera jumps out of the darknes without warning, but on the other hand I really find myself betrayed by the lack of interesting sidequest and NPCs to interact with. Everything seem so empty and soulless if it comes to rhis point in my opinion.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

poly-m In reply to SteveChop [2012-08-11 00:17:46 +0000 UTC]

I happen to like both its gameplay and its very sober narration.
Most of today's games with a great budget just sink it into endless cinematographic cutscenes - it is a great tool of story telling, but games should also learn to create their own way to tell their story instead of copying cinema.

DD is an extreme example, it is indeed very bare-boned, and what little information you have about the story is still very obscure and confused (i'm just past act 1 for now), characters pretty superficial, universe can sound incomplete, but for me, the feelings are there. I am compelled and endeared just by how deep the game immerges you into its universe, by this constant feeling of danger, frustration, excitment and adventure.

Most games should be inspired by putting first and foremost immersion and interactivity above all - but I admit that for next game, DD could also be inspired by telling their story in a little more engaging way ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SteveChop In reply to poly-m [2012-08-11 13:20:07 +0000 UTC]

Well I don't like a game with endless cutscene and less game play too. A good story should be able to tell itself over the time. You don't need one cutscene after another to let it progress. I agree in that and this isn't what I didn't like about the game. It's more that NPCs don't really interact with you. There was one part I crashed my controler because of this game. Because you just passed act 1 for now, I won't spoiler you on what scene I destroyed my controler, but if you go the same storyline as I did, you will probably see what I mean.
This game feels really incomplete and needed some more work here and there. A lot of plots and dungeons just end in a dead end without any outcome to it. It feels unsatifying.
I hope that when Capcom brings out a second part to this game, the problems will be solved.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sabishii106 In reply to SteveChop [2012-09-12 03:48:47 +0000 UTC]

I wonder what the story is going to be like in the next game. DD was popular enough that it seems like it will get a sequel~

I wonder if Capcom will keep thier narration style and just add bioware type notes scattered about like in ME or DA.
