oh my god this scene was so huge for me when i was a kid. and this movie. i remember renting it almost every week at Blockbuster and i loved it. ;o;

I didn't know it existed untl a few months ago. :'D To be honest I know squat about Sonic> I've never played any of the games and I've only seen a few clips of the real show and the occasional episode of Sonic X on saturday mornings.

sonic was my childhood. sonic 2 was the first game i ever played. i watched the shows as often as possible, drew sonic characters and (regrettably) made my own, reenacted scenes from the game with my brother and friends, etc. and then the Shadow the Hedgehog game came out and my childhood was destroyed.
anyway! i'd really recommend playing sonic 2 or sonic 3 for the genesis if you ever get the chance. C: they're very fun, and i loves me some co-op.

There were the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (mostly known for spawning the whole "PINGAS" meme), Sonic SatAM, Sonic Underground (my personal least favorite...featured "long lost siblings" of Sonic as well as the worst songs in existence and ughh), and Sonic X. i never actually saw SatAM, but apparently it's really good.
Just don't play anything past Sonic Battle, if you can. everything that came after that is basically a holocaust of awfulness.
and don't be ashamed of being a Mario fan! i grew up with both, and even though Sonic played a bigger part in my childhood, i'd have to say that i love the plumbers' games much more. C: amazing how they continue to be awesome to this day
