Description Okay, so moooost people who are going to bother reading this probably already know I have nightmares, but if you don't, I do. Not like frequent nightmares, nightmares. Like if I sleep, I am going to have one. No ifs ands or buts. It just happens. And it doesn't bother me. In fact I mostly find it fascinating.
To get really into it though, a couple of months ago I had this really really REALLY elaborate dream where I erscued this little orange fox-panda-pikachu-dog-thing and like was bffs with it. Super strong emotional connection, you know? anyway dream ended with both us dying but I was a lot less worried about dying because I was like, my bff is here, it'll be okay. So the next night I made sure he was on my mind before I fell asleep, and predictably, he ended up in my next dream, and that just sort of continued until now I always have one guy/animal/thing in my dream that I just /know/ via dream logic is him. An orange piece of clothing or this weird dark eyes, or stripes, or something. Sometimes nothing. But it's always that one part of my nightmare that's on my side- an ally, a mental defense from going crazy. And it's totally awesome.
Anyway last night I think I was at like a casino or something in the past with future technology and when everyone had this tiny, microscopic charges loaded into their heads, so that if they were ever caught doing something criminal or something, they government could just blow that tiny charge and you would die. so of course there was less crime. I don't remember what I did or if I actually did anything, but me and him were at this casino place and ours blew. He was back in the hotel room (which I had to climb through a hole in the ceiling to get to) and when my nose started bleeding, I knew knew knew knew his had gone too. So I ran as fast as I could, knocking people over and running into shit and all that jazz, and I finally heaved myself up through this hole and there was was, bloody nose and everything. We didn't say a whole lot, he just sort of smiled and said he was really glad he knew me, and then we just leaned against eachother for awhile waiting for the poison to set in or whatever.
Then the trippiest thing happened. It really sticks out in my mind, really, really vividly. He looks over at me, and shrugs ad smiles and says, "It's okay. You should wake up, now." And I did. It's the first time this week I didn't end a dream by dying. it was just really trippy and vivid and moderately upsetting so of course I needed to doodle it an write a pointless description of it because I don't want to forget it and it meant a lot to me.
So yeah okay peace out now

If you find a nightmare fascinating, I'm not really sure you CAN call it a nightmare. It's just a dream with a scary theme.

A sound theory- but untrue. You can wake up shrieking and still be interested later once you've calmed down. "Why did I dream that? What am I trying to tell myself?"

Personally, I don't think dreams are telling you anythng about yourself- they're just random amalgamations of information you've taken in over the course of the day, and the rest of your life.

I've found them to be fairly useful insights into my own thought processes. Random mixtures of themes and elements from the day mixed with issues and subconscious problems I'm not handling. I think when it comes to brain activity and dreams though everyone is different, it's hard to tell.

Everyone thinks differently I guess... That said, I've not had a dream I can remember in years. Wonder if that just makes me a boring guy...?

That actually sounds kinda romantic (not in the romance way but in the deep friendship way). Maybe he is possibly even a sign of a potential control over your dreams eventually...maybe even the more he appears the more things begin to become less of a nightmare the more he appears and while this one wasn't a "happy ending" it wasn't a painful death for you either and you were able to wake up. I do remember how you mentioned a few months ago that your life had room for improvement (to put it nicely) and is starting to improve a good bit so maybe all the more reason he is becoming that beacon of an end to the nightmares (and not just your nightmares of your dream conscious either)

Nightmares fascinate me (obviously) and I don't get sick of reading about yours. Last night I actually had my first one in a while. It was a take on the old childhood "I pooped my pants nightmare", except for me it was like, thorny diarrhea. ...No, legit, a bunch of thorny vines erupted from my anus like I'd eaten them and not digested them. It was the most painful thing... And people were around, so I had to run, but they were ripping out the back of my pants and I had to go somewhere private and literally hack/rip them out of me. But the experience was so traumatic for me that if I were ever in that same situation, just casually hanging out with my friends, I knew it'd trigger a flashback and it'd end up happening again.

Losing the ability to hang out with your friends because you shit thorns. That's... pretty gruesome. D: WTF dreams.

IDK though, just reading this kind of gives me hope. Just that "It's okay. You'll wake up." Something about that is so unbelievably comforting.

that is horrifying. D: Hood lord. I've been changing diapers my entire life, since I was old enough to carry a chair tog et them off the shelf, my entire life has revovled around shit. I literally don't have any memories of any extended periods of time where I was not cleaning shit out of or off of something or someone.
So that is especially horrifying to me.

I dunno man- it's kind of weird. Half of me is like, I'm really glad I woke up right then, because it was a lot nicer- and half of me is like, how- why did that happen? It's a mixed feeling of comfort and alarm. I've been getting all wonky lately. I used to have night terrors when I was a kid- like, wake up and try to strangle the person waking you up night terrors and stuff, and I've been breaking sleep paralysis a lot. I woke up sitting up the other day. :/ Been gettin weird on me.

I never have dreams. Like, I fall asleep, blank all night. But if I do have any dreams they're nightmares just like this-ish.

I had one the week after my precious cat died.
I was running beside her, at first thinking it was a happy dream where I get to see someone/thing I haven't seen in forever. and then next thing I know the grounds parting between us and a dog just started ripping her to pieces. I couldn't do shit about it either.
;o;

I also have dreams where I meet someone I end up meeting later in my life. Its awkward when you meet someone and they're familiar from a dream, but you cant tell em cause you'd sound like some kind of creep.

Dude, I have some dreams like that.
I mainly end up dying in the most weirdest ways possible. I wish I had a bff-dog-pikachu-fox-panda to be in my dreams. Then dying probably wouldn't be so bad.

You're so lucky

I've had chronic nightmares for over 4 years. You wake up and you remember feeling pain because your brain is convinced you did. I'm in possession of sensations of being ripped limb from limb, or roasted in a housefire, or drowning, being impaled, bleeding out, being crushed and stabbed and sick. I'm not lucky. It's been really difficult to be able to get it to the point where he shows up for any extended length of time or plays more than a minor role.

spriter141 In reply to Polyhexian [2011-09-29 19:41:39 +0000 UTC]

My nightmares always end up in someone getting raped, monsters eating everyone, terrorist attacks, family members dieing, children dieing of sickness, watching horrible memories get relived, replaying the deaths of close family members over and over again (specifically people like my dog and grandpa) being choked and not breathing at all, seeing visions of demons and hell (I think it's hell) and sometimes just being watched by dead family members. Oh yes, can't forget reliving the time I almost died of infections.
Other times it's just darkness.

My nightmares aren't the kind that give you horrible pain kind, but give you emotional breakdowns watching everyone you know and love suffer. I've never had any kind of friend through any of this.

I guess it's a matter of opinion for which you think is worse.

I'm not going to run through a "I'm more emotionally disturbed than you!" argument. If that's what you're going for here you can forget it, it's not going to happen.

spriter141 In reply to Polyhexian [2011-09-29 19:54:38 +0000 UTC]

I'm not here for an argument at all.
That's why I put the "I guess it's a matter of opinion" sentence at the end.
But if you took that as an "I wanna argue" kinda thing, that's you
