This is so refreshing to read. It's so witty and flows so well. Congratulations on the Daily Deviation! It is well deserved. I too can relate to this, for my mom is also a teacher (she teaches pre k).

This is just precious! And so true... I laughed the whole way, and the most at that cute (semi-)surprise ending!
On a stylistic note, your rhymes are refreshingly noncliche, and you refuse to be bound too closely to metre. It was truly a pleasure to read!

This is just adorable!
And ohhhh gosh, I know what you mean! I work in an after school care program, and the childrens are crazy during Christmas time! I think it's a mix of overexcitement and the fact that everyone seems to be sick during the winter. D8

Ah nativity plays, I was Mary once, and the sunday school teacher gave me a row because i took a darker doll to be Jesus, and she was all like, 'OMG Jesus was white ><', and I was like, 'Was he? Where'd he grow up, Leeds?'
I didn't really say that, I was only like 5, but then she took being Mary away from me, and gave it to a girl who took a white doll in. My sunday school teacher was a racist. No wonder I'm an Atheist.
Merry Christmas.
Sorry about the Spam ><

This is wonderful, and it was very true back in the days that I was in Christmas plays of any type. I remember one year we were dressed up as different christmas things in little boxes that looked like decorating houses and we were each suppose to memorize a page from the 'Night Before Christmas' I completely forgot to memorize and I basically just improvised... I wasn't the only one either. We got a standing ovation (though at the time we really didn't know what that meant). ^_^
It does make me worry about what I'm going to go through if I decide to become an elementary school teacher... maybe I should stick to high school?

Oh, this is just tremendous! I too am the child of a teacher (pre-kindergarten through elementary school) and also remember the disasters of my own youthful attempts at drama. I typically don't like rhyming poetry but this was very clever and the imagery is so clear. I can't wait to share this with my family later today when we get together. Congratulations!

This reminds me of the group of poems called 'Dog in the playground.' one poem was about a kid complaining to a teacher about a boy called Derek Drew. lol
I love this!

that was so cute. My Christmas hasn't been all that good without my boyfriend around, whereas he's in Iraq. Anyways that little poem just put a smile on my face, and actually made me laugh a little as well.

That is a really awesome poem. It reads like you have put alot of work into the conversational tone of the character.
When i was in kindy our infants class was having a nativity play, i was going to be a sheep, then two hours before the play the girl playing gabriel cut off her toe with a shovel! So i played gabriel... i don't remember it much, but there are photos of me, lol. I think they put her toe back on, buts she wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
Thanks for the trip donw memory lane... lol.
Merry Christmas (technically that ended 7 minutes ago for me...)

In the line "The shepherds have just lost their sheep," I don't think "have" really does anything other than add a syllable to an already long line. Maybe get rid of it?
Anyway, it's a really fun poem and quite an enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing it.

..lol, just noticed "that" two lines below the one I pointed out. I'd skipped over that word when I read it, and the poem flows well without it methinks. Just something for you to reconsider.

This brought a much needed post-frantic-Christmas-Eve smile to my face. I hope this receives all the praise it so evidently deserves. It really is a great poem. God bless Sunday school teachers and teachers in general, they've got difficult jobs...
Have a very merry Christmas, and congratulations on the Daily Deviation!
