Description This is a test run for watercolors. It ended up looking pretty cool even though it wasn't the effect I was initially going for.

Also, I realize her proportions are way off... but I wasn't really concerned with that when I painted this.

I need to get this movie. This picture just sparked it up for me to get it. Whichhhh i totally will soonly.
I love your test run of the watercolours, even though it didn't come out as planned it's still very beautiful
Did you do the background first then kino? or Kino first then the background ;3
I always wanted to know this cause i wanted to try at watercolours myself.

How did you make these effects? This is really beautiful though it really makes me want to go watch it
Keep up the good work, this is a lovely picture

Even if the proportions are off, as you've mentioned it's still a wonderful piece ^^-

It's also a 13ep anime series. x)

Hm. I guess in general, I do work with the background first, but at the same time, I kind of work at everything all at once. While one section dries, I work on another section, so I kind of have to manage my time. Sometimes it's better to put another layer while it's dry, and sometimes it's better to work with it while it's still wet.

There's so many possibilities! I think the best way to learn is to play around with it. So yeah! Try out the watercolors! It might be frustrating at first but as long as you have fun with it.

For this effect, I used a lot of water to get that washiness and then put black over it once it dried.

Thank you! Okay I will!<3 Thanks for the encouraging words, I know sometimes if something is frustrating I'd lose patience but I'd still work at it because I don't like to give up on stuff. ;3! That's how i learned how to Knit/Croque! So I'm will make sure to not give up. Yey~!

Oh okays.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, dear gosh, this is gorgeous!! How do you wield watercolors so?!? You must teach us, you must! D':> I can never get it to look like that, and the colors are so bold, as well. Plus--Kino! <3

Th-thanks! Yes! Kino!
Truth is I don't know how to control watercolors well (though it might be fun to make a tutorial... someday haha). For this one, it was the first time I used black watercolor (aaaaaa) so I was following a short tutorial. I didn't follow the tutorial exactly, but it might give you a few ideas for washes and layers? [It links to the artist's tumblr, and it plays music orz;; just a heads up] [link]

Ahhhhhh, I've actually found the dA version of that, I believe. xD

But, ahm, I just wanted to know more generally... so, you use the wet-on-wet technique, with clear water first? Can you see what you're coloring in clearly? How do you set aside the white zones?!? I'm so bad at actually trying to watercolor wet on wet, but I so dearly want to learn... @v@;;

Uuumm. Actually it depends, I think? Uuuwaaggghh I'll be honest, I don't quite remember how I did this. But based on what I think I do...

I don't usually use clear water first because the water dries too fast for me (and curls my paper if I put too much) to put enough colors and have them bleed nicely for large areas. I think I use the clear water for small sections that I want to be sorta transparent? But for the most part, I start with paint in varying dilutions.

I have a semi-rough, light pencil sketch, and I just try to keep in mind where I want to keep the paper showing. ;; If something goes over, I either dab it with a paper towel really quickly, or I can wait when it's semi-dry to re-wet and scrub it off. And then if there are mistakes that are best left alone... there's always Photoshop. orz

Hmmmmmmmm, but, mostly, would you say that you painted using lots of water? And then, do you just kind of dab on color to wet places and let the water spread it out? That's what I'm trying to do now, but, it's hard for me to get the hang of...

Oh! Yes, I do that, but maybe only for one wash. It doesn't really work well with layering from my experience. If I want the bleedy thing, I'm more likely to paint down an area with a lot of water and paint, and right next to it paint with another color and have the two wet sections blend themselves together. I guess it's not exactly "wet-on-wet" but it gets a similar effect?
