Description "Psst, Lysithea ! Can you answer a question for me real quick?" Colm  whisper-shouts to his current guide horse. She just so happened to be around and is perfect for what he wants to know.

"Sure Colm! What's up?" Lysithea comes closer to her nearly-sightless charge. He can see light changes and very obvious shadows but other than that cannot see anything. What could he possibly need to know? It's so odd to see his face so serious.

Colm nudges her behind a bush to avoid eavesdroppers. "Okay okay I like someone and need your help."

"Like...as in a friend?" Lysithea tries to figure out exactly what he means.

"No! As in...uh...I'd LIKE to be her mate." Colm flushes slightly and paws at the ground in embarrassment. He hates seeking help in this but at least she's trustworthy enough to go along with it.

"Aw Colm, that's just so cute! I'm really happy for you!" Lysithea beams. "Tell me what she's like and I'll give you her name!"

"Okay, thanks." He is incredibly relieved that she's excited to do this. "I guess I can't say much because of the whole lack of visibility thing. But I can say that she's absolutely wonderful! She smells just like sweet sunshine and flower kisses, plus she brings me apples every week or so. Gosh Lysithea, I cannot even begin to describe how beautiful she smells. And I think she has a loooong luxurious mane based on the shadow profile I got of her that one afternoon." He peters off, face melted into blissful thoughts.

Lysithea is perplexed. There is a mare that does reek of flowers but she already has a mate. And she doesn't bring Colm apples from what she knows. "Anything else? I'm drawing a blank here."

"Yea! One more thing! Along with the flowers is the warm faint scent of foal. So I think she's a Caretaker like you are." Colm had to wrack his brain for that bit.

Lysithea ponders the facts. Long mane, flowers, friendly, and foals? Hmm...that sounds just like... "Marcus ! Colm, you're talking about Marcus!" She gasps.

"That's her name?" Colm is about to say more but the faint rustling of the bush's leaves cuts him off. Someone must have shown up. Oh no! It's her! A tantalizing waft of flowers tickles his nostrils. He wheezes and tries to hide behind his guide horse.

"Salutations Lysithea, Colm." The newcomer greets them in a very masculine voice. Colm is confused at this but shrugs it off. Maybe she was born with high testosterone levels and has a deeper voice.

"Hello Marcus, how are you today? And how is little Chirp?" Lysithea smiles politely, unsure of how to handle Colm at the moment.

"Ah that silly little sparrow! She almost got her head lodged in a tree yesterday." Marcus laughs slightly. "I heard my name being summoned twice so I decided to pop on over for a visit. Is your friend well?"

"Who Colm? Not really. But he does have something to tell you!" Lysithea shoves his shoulder forward. "Come on. You've waited all day for this moment."

"Um...hey c...can you tell me what you look like?" Colm trips over his words and almost his hooves. He is so unprepared for this! He meant to only talk about it.

"Of course. It'd be an honor oh sightless one." Marcus says this sincerely. "I'm an inch or so taller than you at the shoulder for height, and I am dark blue roan in coloration. I have a dorsal stripe, arrow-patterned sides, and a mask-mark around the eyes. My mane is very dark and I am truly proud to admit that it is gloriously long. Shall I list the flowers I adorned it with?"

"No that's fine! What about your eyes? I bet they're as lovely as the rest of you..." Colm grins anxiously.

"Lysithea would have to be the judge of that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder man." Marcus shrugs. "Also I cannot look at my own eyes. I appreciate the nice words though."

Lysithea peeks up at the hippy-horse's lashes. "I think they're deeeeep dark peaceful blue. With lots of sparkles."

Colm sighs. If only he was able to gaze into them and tell her how he really feels! Okay go time. "You're...M...Marcus, right?"

"I am he." Marcus nods in affirmation.

"No hate but that's a weird name for a mare- wait what'd you say?" Colm's mind doubles back at what Marcus said.

"I am he?" Marcus blinks and looks at Lysithea in amusement.

Colm is practically spitting in shock and horror. "You're a DUDE?! Wha- but you smell like flowers! Foals!"

"Mhmm, I am a flower child of the earth just like you are Colm. Why not smell like all the earth's bountiful beauty? And the foal you smell is my adopted daughter Chirp. She's the light of my life." Marcus is getting some odd vibes from the blind horse at the moment.

"Nononono this is all just a bad joke, right?! Tell me it's a joke!" Colm is desperate for this all to be one bad dream. There is no way the mare he fell for is none other than a male! The hippy one others talk about behind his back nonetheless. With a nervous chuff he presses his nuzzle against Marcus' shoulder.
Sure enough there is a firm line of muscle under that silky coat. Mares typically don't hold that much on their bodies; yes some can be buff but not to a regular stallion's extent.
"No flippin way. Shoot shoot..." He backs away, tail tucked in fear and further embarrassment.

"I have acquired some strength from my many walks. Is there something wrong?" Marcus reflects concern. Colm is very troubled at this discovery. "I apologize for not introducing myself sooner to you. Truly I had no idea it would cause this much foul vibes!"

Lysithea cannot contain herself anymore. She hoots and hollers in laughter, making the snap decision to put it all out into the open. It's payback for all the times Colm pranked her by hiding away and causing her to panic when she thought he was lost!
"Oh Marcus, let the poor guy suffer...he was convinced that you were a hot babe and he was totally in love with you."

Colm screams in anger and heartbreak. It already felt like his soul was being crushed, but Lysithea's betrayal only meant that it was all true. All of it. His daydreams of having a small happy family crumble down around him, along with the fantasy of them floating in petal-coated lakes together.

"Shucks, you really felt that way about me Colm?" Marcus' face grows sad and thoughtful at the sight of the blind stallion having a panic attack. "It doesn't bother me in the slightest really. Could you ever find it in your troubled soul to forgive me?" He comes over and gently places their foreheads together hopefully.

"No! Yes...I dunno." Colm whispers in misery, eyes and nose closed tightly. He cannot stand that wonderful smell anymore. With a pathetic sob Colm gallops recklessly off to mourn his loss of a mare that never even existed.

"I'm sorry about this Marcus. He's a nice horse I swear! He just needs some time." Lysithea apologizes for her friend's behavior. "He was super into the mare he thought you were."

"It's all good. Him being blind wouldn't bother me much, but honestly his personality is a bit too razzy for me." Marcus grins sheepishly and shrugs. "Don't fret Lysithea, he'll find someone someday. And me too. If our centers are seeking we will inevitably find a balancing soul to connect with."

"Uh-huh...well sorry to bother you again. I better go and see if I can find him before he runs off a cliff or something." Lysithea bows her head and bolts away in order to find her heartbroken buddy. Marcus may be pretty, but man can he be weird sometimes! She's sorta pleased that he didn't end up with Marcus honestly. There's only so much she can put up with!
---------------------------------------------------------
Poor Colm! He's forced to rely on his nose when it comes to identifying others' genders...males almost always smell like dirt and earth and sweat, while mares are either flowers or grass or other pleasant aromas. Unfortunately he wasn't aware that some horses break those boundaries and take on whatever scents they please! A lesson he learns the hard way. Colm is aware of who Marcus is, he just didn't put two and two together XD
