The Tyranids are a bit more difficult to convert into Equestrians because of the amount of limbs they have. Creating a four legged creature based on simplistic and symbolic complexes like that of My Little Pony can be a bit tricky, and I'm still nailing down the right techniques. Turning these into changelings or manticores or whatever else wouldn't honestly do any better due to all of those still only having four limbs as opposed to a Tyranids six. Hence the creation of the scythe tail.

A pony (Discounting Old One Eye, as I gave it the Crushing Claws for the Front Hoofs) couldn't have Scything Talons for feet and still expect to move like an equine. At least, not one I've ever seen. Haha. They have to be hoofs to allow for quadrupedal movement, but that would be terribly drab and boring for it to simply have the carapace and the hooves. And I dont want to saddle on the appendages due to it suddenly becoming something very different than a pony. The Scythe Tail allows for versatility in attacking (Used similarly to a Scorpions Stinger) as well as Covering up a very distinguishing feature in the My Little Pony Universe - A Pony Tail. Tyranids, as far as I know, are all Hairless, Leaving no room for a random tuft of hair to unravel the bonding features of the Crossover. The Scythe (Or whatever other weapon they may have for that matter) delves into the idea of it being bio engineered to be that way. And simply having the Tail absent is, of course, just straight up silly.

As far as the "Shirt" on the Carapace goes, I think you're on your own for that one. for a shirt to be unbuttoned, it must first have buttons. That and there is no way that a shirt could stay attached to the Tyranid's body like that with no strap on its underside. The corner of the carapace ends shortly after the deltoids (Or whatever you would call a deltoids on a Pony.) leaving no space for a hidden strap. Unless it was attached by sinews or something along those lines, but I think if that was the case, I would have just buttoned it up.

Also, you mentioned mammalian traits. Last I checked, Equines were mammals. haha.

As I draw more of these ponies (And Im relatively new at it) I am understanding the anatomy and overall gestalt appearance of them more and more with each sketch. It comes down to a delicate balance between accuracy of the Cross Over Subject, Accuracy of the Pony's overall anatomy, and the application of a style that will give these a unique enough flare to survive the seas of Pony art out there. Unfortunately, not all of these can look one hundred percent, but then again 5 minute sketches can only go so far. (Fifteen if you count the 10 minutes prior spent researching references.)

Also, the other mythical beasts of the My Little Pony Universe will eventually have their chance to shine, just be patient. Im still trying to perfect my Pony anatomy - throwing in Manticores and Hydras would seem premature if the ponies themselves still need work.

It looks good (and has a great name), but there's one feature that's so glaring and silly (and I mean that in a bad way) that keeps drawing my gaze. It's the armor at the base of the neck. It looks a like a shirt I would wear to work, with the top three buttons unbuttoned. Seriously, it looks like the frontlines troops of the galactic locusts is wearing a shirt.

It's not just the look of it that feels wrong though, it's that it would work terribly in practice. You've tried to adapt features of the guant onto a G4 pony model, and that gives you a long (relatively speaking), unprotected neck. You actually avoided this mistake before in your work, "Battle for Marecragge", when you gave the figures on a more realistic equine proportions.

Ironically, you made the mistakes you made now in earlier works. But in another bout of irony, the only problems I had with "Battle for Marecragge," you fixed here. The Hormacolt here (although you called them Termacolts in Marecragge, even though they didn't have guns) overall looks thinner, more insect-like and more agile, closer to the guant it's parodying. This is thanks to getting rid of some mammalian traits like cheeks and stocky legs.

It occurs to me that any problems I find with your tyranids (even though you've only done guants at this point) is then they include traits of the ponies that don't really mix. Maybe you should mix it with something else from MLP? All the other sketches so far have you mixing ponies with humanoids, the most often used design in the WH40k universe. The tyranids, however, are the exception to this. So perhaps you could combine the various tyranid forms with the various fantastical creatures of the MPLverse? There are plenty of fearsome creatures just begging to have a pointy exoskeleton thrown on them! Parasprites, manticores, hydras, changelings (a bit redundant), and so numerous dragon models.
