The fanbase in a nutshell.
Seriously, if I hear one more comment about Twilight's actions being out of character in the 2017 movie, I'm going to scream.

I to jest właśnie fajne w poniaczkach. Że twórcy podchwytują pomysły fanów. Odcinek Slice of Life uważam za mistrzostwo. Zabrakło mi tam tylko zafascynowania Lyry ludźmi, jak mogli nie wykorzystać potencjału.

A to nieładnie z ich strony. Powinni wziąć przykład z twórców, którzy umieją grać fair play.

I realize this is way late, but if in the off chance you should see this, I agree with you about what lazy writing is and that the OOC argument is overused. I for one do think that the "Love Me" scene was a bit OOC, but perhaps that's just because in my mind, it wasn't explained very well, and I hadn't had enough time to see Fluttershy's other personality aspects. I prefer constructive criticism's over the rants and raves you often see on the internet. And finally, If her real name is George, can we have a comic of her running into a certain abominable snowman?

Spoiler warning.
In the first story arc of the official comics by IDW some cave troll calls her George.

cool to see that everyone's fashionista pony can let her hair down, so to speak. Given how beautiful and graceful she is in canon, she would totally go in the exact opposite direction in her off hours. XD great job!

There is no such thing as out of character. That is my way of thinking. As any psychologist will tell you, every reaction we express is based on prior experience whether recent or not recent. You can react one way at one time and then react to the same situation differently another time. It depends on your state of mind. In a nutshell "if you see it, no becomes why." Whenever I see someone acting questionably, I take a piece of paper and try to map out their thoughts. I'm usually able to answer the question by doing this, and also help me feel for the character more.

I think a lot of people don't properly understand what it means to be OOC. They don't realise that characters can change. I've changed quite a bit in the last couple years myself and the same goes for fictional characters.
A blog post I read a while ago puts it very nicely. OOC isn't about whether a character is in line exactly with what the show depicts, but rather whether they are in line with them self. It's perfectly fine to take a character and depict them differently as long as you have them acting the same throughout the entire work, or otherwise show the progression from where they started to where they are now. Something called character development.
Of course what I've relayed here is just a bit of a paraphrasing, what little I could remember on the fly. The actual article is a lot longer and goes into much more depth and if anyone's interested I can try to dig it up again.
