Description     "It's that fakkin' monke!".

    "Speak pour yerself!".

    "Stupide! I mean de...".

Mandroon are large (approximately 1,000-2,000 pounds), distant relatives of Atrox Sapients, to whom they pose a considerable threat. They are omnivores and predominantly solitary, living quiet lives amidst the last remaining stretches of old growth pillar-forest hugging the southern coast. Despite being built like a gorilla, they occupy an ecological role closer to that of a black bear. The average Mandroon consumes protein on a regular basis, digging for eggs and vertebrate "worms" and killing whatever large game presents itself. As for less bloody fare, they are extremely fond of pillar-tree sap and various kinds of choice fungi, as well as a certain terrestrial algae that grows in the warmer times of year. Mandroon are mostly muscle and prefer mild, humid climates, unable to tolerate the abyssal cold experienced further north.

During the darker half of the year they hibernate in immense burrows which, by aid of their wickedly curved foreclaws, they excavate themselves under hillsides and log piles. Pregnant females give birth in these burrows, rearing anywhere from 1-3 offspring at a time. Mandroon reach sexual maturity when nearly a decade old and may live for another decade or so before dying of old age. This short lifespan is, perhaps, owing to their particularly harsh, combative lifestyle. Territorial creatures at heart, Mandroon often fight over choice patches of food or the nicer dens. Mothers must be especially vigilant, as rivals of both genders will attempt to kill and eat their offspring. While they frequent emit the enigmatic sonar clicks known from nearly all contemporary fauna, Mandroon are far more infamous for their high, metallic, rattling cries, which sound uncomfortably similar to demonic laughter and would put even the meanest hyena to shame. These are in fact expressions of fear or stress, used to frighten off threats, but it does not stop those who encounter them from seeing these ghostly forest denizens as unworldly monsters.
