I almost always went with Totodile. Wasn't much a fan of Chikorita (though Meganium is love) and I hated how the first move Cyndaquil learned was Smokescreen and not an actual attack.
So I never really got too far with Cyndaquil before I restarted with Totodile lol. Which is weird because I very rarely ever use water types.
I don't recall ever having a Meganium either until I traded my friends for one later on, so I don't think I ever started with a Chikorita.
When I got Heartgold though I started with a Cyndaquil.

Wow, such a cute drawing, haha! :3 I ALWAYS choose Cyndaquil, I started with the Crystall Version and Yuudai (Cyndaquil) was also my first Pokemon ... And Typhlosion is one of my favorite Pokemon. :3 And which one did you chose? However, I think it's a good idea to make all starters like that. ^^ The Kanto ones also look awesome ... btw ... Are you doing the evolutions too? Because I totally want to see a Typhlosion. :'D

When the johto gen came out I had aaaall 3 versions.... I started with one and slowly compiled the whole collection XD So I had all three of them, I can 't rally remember which one I picked first. I'm pretty sure it was chikorita, I also liked cyndaquil. I generally always liked the plant and fire... the water has never been my first pick ;,D

I always chose fire types when I played Pokemon.
Except in Black, I chose Oshawott.
