Hi jon, been looking around for a ND (nutral density filter) to be able to reduce the amount of light entering the camera by up to 8 stops and to be able to get (very) long exposures to blur motion, especaly in water and clouds.with the added advantage of not having to get up at 5am or camp out till dark...not that we dident have a good time doing so you understand!

Probably either the Canon 40D
Or Nikon D80.. Leanin more toward the Canon though.
First camera I owned was and old canon rebel, then graduated
to the EOS A2E .. SLR.. So I'm a fan, and user...

But Nikon makes a great camera and is priced better too.

well i have a Nikon and am very happy with it,its getting on a bit now (not unlike myself!) but its built like the proverbal brick s..... h.....!!!,guess it depends if you have got a load of cannon fit lenses etc and i suppose you are already familar with the operation etc.dont really think there is much to choose between them

lol.. yeah... i know what you mean..
Hey.. I was thinking seriously about the D200..
Any idea if the price is worth the difference from the D80...

And have you ever heard of Bestpricecamera.com.. ???

i have the forerunner to the D200,not suprisingly named D100.its a serious bit of kit, Jon. personaly i would go for it.prices seem to have fallen a little on these now.there as good a camera as you will get.The "pro" Nikons are not for the likes ou you and me.there for press and sports jornos so dont bother with em.i think Nikons will take pritty much any Nikon fit lens although you prob lose auto and autofocus functions on the really old ones.should be able to pick up a d200 with a decent lens included anyway.worth having the power pack that screws to the underside too, makes it easer to hold in portrait plus it has an extra shutter relese.

Yeah.. I even looked at the prices of the upper end... 5,000 dollar models..
Nah... A little to much for what I need, I agree with you there.. as for the powerpack..
I had one on my EOS.. and it was one of the best additions to my set..

The unfortunate problem is a few years back.. all my equipment was .. misplaced..
but an unfortunately unreliable person. Tam camera bag, Two camera.. both canon slr's
Four lenses and a truly awesome remote, dual purpose programmable flash.. All gone.. Not to
mention the many filters I had purchased over the years and the light meter..

So now Nikon seems to be the best purchase for me, there is also some sentimental value to Nikon..
My late father used to work for Texas Highways Magazine, Journalist and photographer.. He used an
Nikon F.. That proudly sits on my desk here.. So im thinking of honnoring his memory and going with the Nikon..

Sorry of such an long story..

no need to apologise, always intresting to hear from you.ive never come across anyone who has said "yeh..i had a Nikon but it was no good so i bought a fuji" thade 200D hold there value for years because they are simply well built and do the job very well.you know all this anyway from your Dad.You have obviously inherited his talent along with the Nikon F.
