Description Hokay. These are my personal reasons why "Teen Titans" went downhill. So, I don't want people starting arguements and debates over this. Thank you.

YOU NEED TO FULL VIEW 'CAUSE IT'S HUGE!!

My personal reasons TT went downhill, illustrated into a comic for all to see.

Reason 1 - Beast Boy's lack of backstory. Sure, he was the comic relief of the show, but he had no real backstory. Even when he was with the Doom Patrol, no hints of his past were brought up. (I know his past was weird in the TT Comics, but they could've done something a little different for the show.)

Reason 2 - Raven's "humor". Need I say more than, "It was so bad, it made my IQ points drop with a 'THUD!'"?

Reason 3 - Starfire became the biggest idiot I'd seen in a while. I liked her too. But suddenly, she went from naive to total doofus. It was no fun... especially when they began making her talk like a nimrod too.

Reason 4 - "Titans Go!" appeared to be all Robin could say during Season 5. He hardly did anything, except give commands to his team.

Reason 5 - Raven becoming EMO is like something out of a bad fanfic that you'd rather not talk about. It just is wrong. Raven was unemotional and didn't sit there a blubber her sob past to only Robin. She also didn't laugh, cry or get overly angry... she maintained a cool exterior and was not constantly talking about how evil she truly is.

Reason 6 - Starfire's speech in "Snowblind" made my sisters and I burst out laughing it was so bad. It made no sense. She was basically telling him, "Go ahead and blow yourself up, just be sure to embrace it."

Reason 7 - Robin goes from cool, anal leader to biggest dork of the century. Congratulations Rob. You suck.

Reason 8 - The show began to suffer from the "Too many Characters, not enough plot" syndrome. And though I did like some of the new characters (Jericho and Pantha namely), hardly any of them had time to shine.

So, yeah. Eat up.

I agree with these completely. Not only did this comic make me laugh my ass off, but it got be thinking about TT again. When I watched this as a kid, I of course had no problems with no backstories or any of that; I was too little to understand most of it. But one thing I do remember is that Beast Boy was always, ALWAYS my favorite character. He had so little main episodes in this series, and I remember always being disappointed when the show came on and it wasn't an episode about him. Then I got older and found this show again. As you can probably guess, I realized how bad it got after a while.

I recently rewatched both parts of "Homecoming" and realized how absolutely bad some of the art was. Sometimes it looked like the animators weren't even trying. There were some scenes in which Beast Boy looked like a total derp. It was very disappointing to see two episodes that I looked forward to watching when I was a child be this sloppy.

Something else that bothered me: Raven's story arc. I liked Raven as a kid too. Probably my second favorite character out of them all. But the way they portrayed her, it made me completely uninterested in the episodes. And that's only the first problem I had with it. My second problem was, well, why Robin of all people? These two didn't really have an episode in which they bonded...at least not in my memory. Forgive me if I'm wrong about that. But I CAN remember a few episodes in which she bonded with Beast Boy, an episode or two in which she bonded with Cyborg, and even one when she bonded with Starfire! But no Robin. It makes me feel like they just made him do it because he was the leader of the team. I dunno, that's just how I feel about it.

And the movie...I'll spare you from my rant. x.x Ugh...I'm shuddering just thinking about it.

I still enjoy a few of the episodes, but most of them are the older ones. I think they made it Robin because in the comics, Raven had a crush on him. But they never established that she liked him in the show, so it was awkward. Also, in the comics, it was Jericho who saved her from her father's wrath, because he and Raven had a special bond. But they shoved him in way too late in the series for anyone to realize his significance. (Jericho is also Slade's son.) I personally would've loved it if Cyborg was the one who saved her in the cartoon, because he was my favorite character.

Ah, I see. I've bee trying to get the comics, but I asked my mom about them and she said she can't find them. Next I'll be asking my friend if she has any.

Jericho was a great character with an awesome power. I really wish he would have had more screen time in the show other than how many, three episodes? Once I found out that he was also Slade's son, it made me wonder even more why he was put out as such a one-dimensional character.

In all honesty, I would have liked it if Beast Boy saved her. It would have given him those few 'mature' episodes that he lacked so much in the series. But Cyborg too, he would have been a better choice than Robin. If they had given Robin and Raven more time to bond in the series, then I think it would have added a more natural feel to those episodes.

Agreed. Jericho was a really cool character. And even though he couldn't talk, he still had a lot of personality. Plus, he could speak to Raven telepathically, so there was no reason why he couldn't be in the show earlier. Plus, he and Kole ended up together in the comics... so if they made him show up earlier in the show, we might've been able to see them bond too.

Terra was also one of the big reasons why it caved. Adding her (and in doing so giving the comic releif character a love interest...which should never happen without a good plot) turned pretty much every episode she was in into a soap opera. A bad one.
Terra:
"It's no big deal, if my friends still knew they'd still like you."
"...You just don't understand..."
Betrayal:
"Liar!"
"Beast Boy...it's the truth."
"Terra...why?"
"Because you could never give her what she needs."
Seriously, what audience where they sending this to? Terra had a good plot behind her (albeit cliche), but they executed it poorly. Not to mention that Beast Boy, who had his heart broken multiple times by her, was fine with it the next episode. This goes back to your first point: where's his angst?!
Well, there you have it. There's me two cents on the matter.

What's worse is they tried to make her relationship with BB genuine... even though in the comics it was all a lie. Terra used BB to gain information for Slade. She never loved him, she just pretended to. Terra and Slade were the canon comic couple, not Terra and BB.

True, but it'a a kid's show, so pedophilia was kind of out of the question. There are many other ways in wich the show is nothing like the comics.

I agree with a lot of these reason especially reason three and five. Urk, a lot of time when Starfire is being dumb I switch the channel and count to ten before going back. I miss the calm cool Raven which was replaced by sobs and emoness. T.T But I'm confused in reason seven.... did I miss something? hm... did I watch the wrong episodes where robin wasn't a dork??? And I actually liked Raven's sarcasm... if that's what you meant. But the others? Yep I agree with the rest. It's a relief to see someone criticize the teen titans.

I meant Raven's puns. She never seemed like the pun type.

And Robin was dorky, but they took it to new levels as the series went.

That scene with Starfire makes me lol... every time I see it.

oooh(for the puns). yeah I agree. Raven's more of a sarcastic type. And starfire makes me wonder if she was zapped with something that messed up her brain. Just wondering, which episodes were Robin all dorky? I think i might be oblivious...

I agree with you on some of the points you made, on my opinion, it seems the creators wanted to make depth background stories for the Teen Titans but weren't given proper time, replaced different writers, and probaly had to change the original episodes plot because they knew the show was going to be cancelled. Plus they wanted a season 6, but cartoon network decided to drop the idea and stick to their wierd policy so they can make room for other shows to join in. I strongly think that it needs one or 2 atleast new seasons to finish off this wonderful series and a better proper ending to it instead of "Things Change".

Ugh, it's so good to see a TT fan who's willing to criticize the show. A lot of Teen Titans fans I've interacted with tend to plug their ears and hum any time someone tries to point out some of the show's flaws.

I only saw the first couple of episodes of season five, but I can imagine. I quit watching the show because I was sick of how hard the writers worked at avoiding any depth. Sure they want a light cartoon, that's fine, but you don't have to completely ignore backstory to achieve that. What makes it worse is that certain episodes showed that they COULD write deeper stuff if they wanted to, but they just didn't care.

The whole "it's for kids" things doesn't fully work either. Avatar was for kids, it had backstories and an on-going plot and everybody loved it. A little backstory isn't going to scare off kids.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Porcelain-Requiem In reply to Demonflayer [2011-03-05 21:32:20 +0000 UTC]

Plus, the original comic Teen Titans was for teens, not kids... so, technically the "it's for kids" card doesn't apply here.

And indeed, kids can stomach some darker elements...

The show stunk. They didn't even get many of the canon couples from the comics in TV form. Speedy/Wonder Girl, (she wasn't even IN the TV show) Jericho/Kole, Pantha/Red Star, and Herald/Bumblebee... just to name a few.

I always wished they would've ended with season four XD I thought the end of..."The End" /haha/ would've been perfect. I did like a lot of season 5 [including Red Star and Jericho and just seeing a whole bunch of comic cartoons cartoon-ified], but they made it too...yeargh I dunno it just didn't work well for me. And a real bothersome thing was how the art and animation got worse over time :c Season one had fanastic art [well...in the episode "Sisters" it did, "Switched"...I won't go there XD] and then the movie's art was just ugh bad.

alsooo i apologize for going through your amazing gallery and commenting on veryvery old stuff like i always do XD

I love this show, so it hurts me to say this, but you're absoulutley right. Basically the first episodes my mom saw were 'The End's, and now she thinks the show is one down-right depressed-fest. They had way too many characters the last episodes, but I would've loved to see a season focusing about some of them. *cough*Kid Flask and Jinx, Argent, Jericho, Panthah*cough*.

I sware, by the end of season 5, I wanted to shoot Raven. I wouldn't have minded if she became a little insecure, but the way they butchered her made her emo and annoying.

Don't even get me STARTED on Slade.

okay, 1.i get that they never said anything abut BB's past but hes still an amazingly freaking cool character. 2.Raven's humor isn't really supposed to make snese. 3.Starfire isn't an idiot. Shes from another planet and doesn't get the fact that they dont call thiings what she calls them 4.Raven didnt get EMO she was scared and sad and only talked about it to robin bcuz hes the only one that would understand 5.Star's speech was motivational. she meant he didnt need to be afraid of his power, because the more afraid you are, the harder it is to control it. 6.Robin isnt a dork, hes kick-ass because he is always cool-headed and trying his best to lead his team 7.i agree with too many characters 8. u dont know wut ur talking about 9.and robin says that to get them to rush into battle dumbass

Besides no one forced you to comment on this... if it's oh so offensive to you, there are lots of other images you can comment on instead of going around and insulting people who think differently on something.

At least BB had the Doom Patrol, what backstory did Cyborg have?????

My biggest problem with Robin was they never decided which Robin he is. Yes it is made clear that he is Dick but the writers just gave him a jumble of all the Robin's personalities. Dick's angst, Jason's PMS, and Tim's nerdiness. Plus if he is nightwing where is all the awesome sexmuffin power he has?

I love the Star part with the toat of er

But Cy would refer to when he was human, and how he was in an accident... BB didn't even have that much... no explanation as to how he turned green.
