Description This is NOT a Photo Manipulation! Just because dA is filled with them, doesn't mean this has to be one as well. It's a photograph, the most editing that was done is on the eyes and that does not constitute a Photo Manipulation. She is really blue! It's called body paint and it takes HOURS!

Creative Team

Body Painting by Pamela Grieco
Hair by Ebony
Model is Raven West
Production Design is Shayla of Phantom Light Media
(*TheRoseCourt on dA)

The body painting took probably around 5 hours!

Outfit was done by me and Shayla, I provided the jewelry.
Post processing by me. Shayla gets credit for finding all the people who helped make this possible!

Editing is kinda a bitch and I'm OCD. It's hard to get the right "glow" that the movie had. But I think this is decent.

Disclaimer:
I realize not everyone likes Avatar and you could even say the Avatar "craze" has put people off of liking the movie. But I have something to say and that is, I believe any true artist should be able to at least appreciate the visual beauty that this movie has shown us. So please, if you don't care for Avatar that's fine, but simply don't look and keep your comments to yourself. I did this photo shoot for me because I am a fan of the movie.

Avatar fans, I hope you enjoy.

That's amazing, great work! My only criticism would be the lack of ears, but that's far from mattering with the beautiful makeup work and costume. Very nice!

This is absolutely amazing! The detail is incredible. It's clear to see that you have put a lot of effort into creating both the costume and the body paint to get the right feel of the movie into the picture. It turned out truly beautiful.

I'm not sure what brand the makeup artist used, but I know they're round little containers and you add water to it in order to apply it.

Nope not airbrush, I think she used sponges to apply it.

I myself am a make-up artist and can appreciate the hours it takes to do even a simple body painting let alone something as elaborate as this. I think this is beautiful and breath taking. I have yet to see the movie, but love this version or interpretation of the characters in it. It's almost more tribal in a way and less alien. Like the tribes in Africa that paint themselves with elaborate white designs making the contrast exceptional. I was so happy to see this pop up on my devwatch list! Thanks for taking the time to create such a beautiful piece.

Thank you
People really have no idea until they've done body painting or seen the time it takes to do it. You have a good point, I guess ours is a bit more tribal. But I like that. I'm often very inspired by African tribes in my art. Thank you for your comment!!

Your welcome. I loved the take on this. I mean if people would pay attention it's make-up only! Without prosthetics of course it's not going to look EXACTLY like the movie, and who would want it to? It's fine as is, don't let people's ignorance get to you, you did an amazing job.

I myself have never watched the movie and have no real desire to, but this amazes me.
The time and effort put into the makeup and costuming really shows; it's absolutely stunning.
