i dont know why but i always feel uncomfortable asking a talented artist how he did a certain piece. its like asking a magician how he does his magic tricks. so i wont ask but i would love to know what medium you used? amazing stuff

This painting as you see it is acrylic on stretched linen. It was done after visiting Springbrook in the Gold Coast hinterland. At the southern end of the plateau is a lookout near a stand of Antarctic Beech trees. I did this painting to describe how I felt about the place, relying on my memory and imagination rather than actual physical landmarks. I just started painting, and let it develop in it's own time and take it's own course.
I exhibited the painting recently, but just before I did, I included an unobtrusive figure in the foreground, a barefoot traveller with a swag, sitting in the shadows by the side of the path, looking into the distance. It just seemed to fit somehow. If I have an updated photo I will post it.
Anyway, I showed the painting and it sold, which I was very happy about!
Thanks for your interest

Yes I'd love to see the final version if it's no bother. and thanks, now that I know this was entirely done with acrylic I have even more respect for it

I'm in endless debt to you for those inspiring works.

Ahh, I thought it looked pleasantly dusky; you have such a talent for depicting the different lighting of the different times of day.

Elyandarin [2012-07-19 22:30:14 +0000 UTC]

I think it's well done, but in my admittedly uninformed opinion it's a bit low-contrast, a bit too much grey.
For fun, I upped the picture's contrast and color saturation in GIMP and got a pretty vibrant image - though yeah, then it sort of conveys another mood

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

postapocalypsia In reply to Elyandarin [2012-07-23 21:56:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the feedback - I suppose I could make all the pictures sunny, except that I particularly wanted the cloudy foggy look that is so prevalent in high forested areas. It is supposed to be a bit moody.
I do appreciate your comments - thanks

Your landscapes seem to tell a story all on their own and don't necessarily need characters cluttering up the space. I like

postapocalypsia In reply to Miandelam [2012-07-09 01:45:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for that. I often wonder if I should add characters or not. I would like to think they had a purpose, otherwise they can seem superflous or contrived.
I appreciate your comments

Thanks - I was a bit concerned for a while that there was an absence of light, but then I realized that misty forests generally are a little dark under the canopy.
