Description I won't attempt to explain too much, except to say that things always change, nothing ever happens quite the way one would expect, and we are only ever the sum of our experiences.

By the rate at which we dispose waste, it wouldn't be surprising for us to turn back to it once globe warming has done it's worst. You've communicated that fact really nicely.

I was trying to communicate the idea that at our creative core, we always return to natural influences. So, beyond our fascination with technology and our narcissistic view of our own cleverness, here's our life-weary traveller...he has run out of puff trying to find inspiration from replicating a garden of eden for himself out of man-made stuff. He is looking ahead to the unknown, leaving it all behind him, and only taking the bare essentials...
Well, that's what I was thinking at the time. I don't like to explain too much of my own motivation, in case it stifles the free rein of the viewer's own imagination.
Thanks for your feedback!

This is beautiful; there's a lot of brownish tones, but there's just enough of other colors to give it variety and keep interest. I love the background pastels, too.

(It's such a shame that nobody's commented since winter...)

yeah, it's a bit unusual for me to go easy on the colour but this one just needed some sublety and to emphasize the notion that this guy is done here and is now moving on...
Thanks for the comment

hmmm... what can I say, the artwork is already a knock-out. But I appreciated the concept more. Are you the only one who conceptualize this? I really admire such artists who can put into canvas all the things they have in mind - most of the time.
Me, I got gigabytes but I fail to express it on surface...

Hi - thanks for your comments I try not to philosophize too much, but this painting was done in a certain frame of mind which prompted me to do so...
It interests me how we all view change and perceive 'rogress'. Our whole socio-economic structure(s) are bound to change and evolve, and things that we take for granted as permanent (including us) are not! This is way too large a topic for me to elaborate on now, but through my own contemplations of life, the universe and everything, I have developed a wry sense of humour about it all. While this picture is not intended to say anything specific, it reflects (hopefully) some of the chaos, pathos and inventiveness of being human in a world of constant change.
...I have only skirted the edges here, but hopefully you get the drift

You know...this is wonderful work. The concept is thought provoking as well. I agree that we are the sum of our experiences...but...I cling to the idea that the sum of our hopes, our imagination adds another dimension to us.

postapocalypsia In reply to artstarter [2008-08-26 00:25:44 +0000 UTC]

Thank you I must admit I was feeling a bit philosophical and introspective when I wrote those comments, but essentially I meant that all of our experiences are what make us unique and colours every aspect of us, including our outlook and hopes. I know that my imagination seems to carry a resonance of my experiences. I would hope that it is not a limiting assertion, but rather, an observation that connects us to our own past and potential. Our imagination(s) certainly adds dimension to us all, but for me it is also certainly fuelled, or flavoured with the sum of my experiences. (phew - I never majored in philosophy, but that's my two bob's worth!)
