Another good religious movie is Mobsters and Mormons (2005). There's no conversion attempt (the main character Carmine starts out as Catholic and remains Catholic after the events in the movie), the Mormons in the movie are depicted as normal, everyday people that tolerate Carmine's snarkiness without getting preachy or offended, Carmine has actual character development, and when problems do arise, everyone is there for each other instead of being at each other's throats.

Movies like this and other religious media in general are why I tend to stay as FAR AWAY from religion as much as humanly possible. Sometimes, I feel like it might affect and possibly damage my sanity. My mind was also almost convinced that I should be crucified when I die back when I was briefly a Christian. No joke.

You just hate God, verbally abuse your girlfriend and you will fucking die! Muslim? Your father will beat the shit out of you when he finds out you're reading scripture! Dean Cain? Bastard!"

It annoys me so much that people immediately assume I hate Christians because I hate this movie. And I'M a Christian.

And...there's 3 of these movies. So...did the people who make this movie fail at proving that God isn't dead twice? Or do they just want to prove that their shitty movies haven't killed God?

I'll go ahead and throw my sanity (or what little I have) into the ring: I'm neither a Christian or an atheist. My religion's a...well, it's a bit of a weird one, largely based off Babylonian mythology and sex/sensation worship. And I'm also a slight bit of a maltheist, just like many ancient peoples (including the Mesopotamians). But I'm a sexy bitch, and I feel a connection to goddesses who were described as sexy bitches. And I can't help that. But, at the same time, I realize that it's rather unlikely that *anyone* can help what they believe in: doxastic voluntarianism (basically, consciously choosing what you believe, including what you believe in, for no real reason (as opposed to seeing something that makes you change your mind): rationalwiki.org/wiki/Doxastic… ) isn't exactly possible, so even fundies can't really "help" being fundies. But you know what the difference is? They're the types of people who don't get that your beliefs (or lack thereof) are as real to you as theirs are to them, and they're the ones who inexplicably believe everything their god does is good by definition, regardless of how little sense it makes (hey, I have some pretty big assholes for deities as well, but no one who ever worshiped them was under the delusion that they were "all good"! Them being jerks just means that I'm a jerk too for being the type of person who would feel connected to them even without being raised in that culture, but at least I admit it!)! So, inasfar as they refuse to respect my, and others', beliefs, I refuse to respect theirs! I'll even consider them "enemies" when their shenanigans threaten to twist freedom of religion. Or just when their shenanigans threaten my life. Which sadly seems to be happening more and more .

If you want a TV show about the lives of Christians, see either "Amen" or "Moral Orel"...as for a film about Christians see...I can't think of any. I want to say "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Prince of Egypt" but they're both Biblical films. Which begs the question; why are Biblical films better than Christian ones?

So true. My problem is not the system of belief itself (how can you hate God if you think he doesn't exist?), but the myriad of bad things that it has driven people around the world to do, from witch burning to suicide bombers, and how it gets in the way of thinking rationally about the world, resulting in the obstruction of scientific innovation and the waste of time and money, and other valuables on useless practices.

Agreed.
This is the sort of movie that not only has lazy writing and stereotypes, but is meant to promote a message in a horrible and atrocious way and is transparent in not only it's attempt at propaganda that doesn't reflect reality yet passes it as fact, but is also blatantly done to be promoted and to be promoted by people that the people who made it are taking advantage of for money from people who don't care how their message is presented as long as it is presented, which is sad and what is frustrating about religion and obvious money grabs to manipulate people in such a manner as this movie is in general for me.

As a Christian myself, I agree with this review whole-heartedly!
I'm just surprised you didn't mention any of the court cases that "inspired" this movie listed in the end credits. Worst of all, those court cases were actually about gay persecution, and the movie decides to list them off as court cases of "Christian persecution" instead! How disgusting is that?!

I don't blame you for giving this film an atrocity page. I'm no true, holy, far perfect Catholic myself. I'm a struggling Catholic who tries hard to understand things that I feel do not make sense or feel like the opposite of what we should be teaching, such as love and acceptance, not passing damnation toward people who are either not Catholic, homosexual, or just believe in the Bible differently than most of what is written there, by man's words, not by God. I can't bring myself to believe that everything in the Bible is true when some of it disturbs me or makes me question who really wrote all that stuff. There are times I do not want to be part of a group that makes it seem like only the cleanest of souls belong in Heaven while those who are of a different religion or are not straight will never get there.

The way I see it, if your religion tells you that people who are different from you deserve to be damned, then it's best to not be involved in it at all.

I can't stand the way they talk about gays and lesbians like they are a disease in this world that need to be cured of their impurity or whatever crap they still believe in. Even if I may not agree with what some Atheists, Jews, Protestants, Muslims, etc do, it is not my place to pass judgement on them or throw my beliefs down their throat. They think being gay or lesbian is a choice and its a lie by the Devil, can you believe the crap these religious fanatics throw? There is a part in the Bible that said eating shellfish and wearing fabric is a sin. Also the desire to have children should be a personal choice, but a MUST/DEMAND.

Well who am I to try and force my beliefs down others throats? Also I could be wrong, but it could be that the movie might not have been demonizing all atheists, but proving there are those like the professor who are self entitled and beyond egotistical that what he tried to do with his students was just as bad, trying to force them to think his way or else he'll flunk them. When did universities start allowing this kind of so-called teaching to occur in their class rooms? The point might be whether you're Catholic, Atheist, Jewish, Hindu, Protestant, or whatever, we should believe in whatever we want, but not to the point where we dictate/force it on others in the worst ways. And what that father did in disowning his daughter is just terribly wrong. No real loving parent should ever do that under any circumstances.
There is one particular religious fanatic somewhere on DA that attacks gays and lesbians as disease ridden while straight people are perfect in every way and incapable of sin. At least that is what she makes it sound like.

The movie does try to demonize all atheists, as all the atheists in the movie other than the professor have something horrible happen to them for no reason while the Christians are completely disease-free and can spout out their beliefs however they want, whether they make sense or not.
Who is this religious fanatic?

I think it's Feesu-San. Even if some of her views have a lot of good points, I can't stand how she makes it sound like only gays and lesbians are capable of the most evil of sins, as if she thinks straight people can't be child abusers or molesters too. But of course that is why I do not watch too many religious films other than The Prince of Egypt, Joseph King of Dreams, and that Disney short The Small One.

IT was on one of the journals she made, saying something like "see what happens when you live by sin in the house" when there was a child abused by two lesbian women, but still makes it sound like straight people can never be capable of such a thing.

It's basically about a successful couple in a strained marriage, the dad isn't there for their daughter, sells drugs and thinks of cheating, so the mom cleans out her closet and sticks notes on the wall containing bible verses and prays there (hence the title). She gets help from an stereotypical overacting old lady to stay on the right track. There's a pointless subplot involving the daughter preparing for a jump-rope competition for her school, and after all that time wasted on it, she gets the second place trophy! With prayer, every problem is resolved! For example, the dad almost cheats on his wife, but with prayer, he contracts diarrhea!

Forgot to mention there's a running gag throughout the movie about the mom's feet stinking (apparently she doesn't wash them? idk), and it "culminates" in a scene I'm sure was only placed there to appease the foot fetish crowd: her husband giving her a foot massage while she's eating a sundae.
