I've been meaning to post this for a while and I finally got around to it. This is a picture I drew based on a panel from the first volume of the Kodansha (KC) Mario manga issue that's a loose adaptation of "Mario Land 3: Wario Land." In it, Luigi gets up beaten up by Wario during an encounter he and Mario have with him, and is knocked out for a while, then wakes up to a Wanderin' Goom (a harmless enemy Wario Land) and befriends her. He even takes a ribbon out of his pocket and makes a little bow for her. I don't know if he named her or not since I haven't fully learned Japanese yet so I haven't been able to read it (though I can still tell most of what's going on from the pictures), so for now I'll just call her by the Japanese name for Wanderin' Goom, Kurikuri. Throughout a good portion of the story, Kurikuri spends most of her time sitting on Luigi's head. I thought this was so adorable that I just had to draw a picture based on one of the panels, so I did this one based on the part where Luigi is ice skating with her on his head. She's surprisingly a useful sidekick to the team as she saves everyone at one point, and there's a cute moment where Luigi saves her as well. Sadly Luigi and Kurikuri's bond ends in tragedy later in part 2 as Kurikuri sacrifices herself to save Captain Syrup, and she ends up being crushed by bricks. Luigi tries to go after her and digs through the bricks but it's too late. Kurikuri is injured so badly that she dies in Luigi's arms leaving him heartbroken.

I found this story really sad because I've always known Luigi to be probably the nicest character of the Mario Bros. franchise, and he usually loves kids and other cute creatures in any media (as long as they aren't enemies attacking him like Wigglers, Chauncy, mice or Polterkitty) whether it's Baby Peach in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show episode "Two Plumbers and a Baby", Baby Yoshi in the infamous "Mama Luigi" episode of the Super Mario World cartoon, his baby self in "Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time", and of course the Polterpup in the Luigi's Mansion games, so it's hard not to feel bad for him when a cute creature he spent most of the story taking care of dies.
