Something of a variation on A Sense of Scale 1 with Earth. the Moon and the distance between them accurately scaled, but with a twist this time.

See, the planet Venus is... not an easy place to live. The thick atmosphere gives it an atmospheric pressure about 90 times that of Earth's, and the atmosphere is mostly carbon dioxide, which has led to a runaway greenhouse effect: Venus' surface temperature is 464°C and climbing, making it the hottest planet in the solar system despite Mercury being closer to the sun. And oh yes, there are sulphuric acid clouds that produce wicked acid rain. And many active volcanoes. If you actually went there, you'd be spoilt for choice on ways to die (although recent reports of weird chemical activity in the atmosphere suggest that there's a slim possibility of life still! That or strange high-temperature chemistry. Space is a curious place)

Anyway, given what we know modernly of the planet Venus, perhaps the goddess Venus needs an update. Quite a few things have changed, but one thing's stayed the same: she's still hot .
