Meh, I'm just gonna stick with shipping Near and Mello. Besides I've never understood the point of shipping a character with a character that doesn't exist in the series anyways.

Well, I don't see a point in pairing two rivals (one of them even hating the other) who both would never give up to the other. They absolutely don't fit together, each needs a different type of partner and they are shipped only because they have a common history/goal/screentime, which is IMO a poor reason.

Well have you ever considered the possibility that maybe people ship Near and Mello because they're rivals? Crazy, I know. But some people, like me, prefer a pairing that has an actual conflict to it since that makes it interesting to write about. Besides the reason you gave for people shipping Near x Mello is very inaccurate. Whether you accept it or not, Near and Mello do actually suit each other in a weird way.
Sure their personalities don't fit but they're personalities are so different that's what would make them a good couple. Because Mello is everything Near needs in a person, someone who is vibrant and lively to contradict his bland personality but also someone who would protect him. A pairing where two characters are too alike is actually less likely to work. Since they won't have any contradicting traits to help balance each other out.
It doesn't really matter if you think the pairing makes sense or not, it's not gonna stop the fans from shipping it. We all have different tastes, which I know also applies to you too. Just don't act like your FANMADE pairing is the only Death Note pairing there is. Because that's just ridiculous.

From life I have experience that opposites don't really work well, rather "birds of a feather flock together". To me MxN is ridiculous and complete crack. They would make a great investigation team though.

Well to me your pairing also counts as crack since it is just a canon x OC pairing and just fanmade. It's quite pointless to defend it when Clara's not even an actual character in the series. Although I do agree with you one thing, Mello and Near would make a great investigation team. However, I also still like them as a pairing no matter what anyone else says about it. Besides, even if a pairing doesn't make sense to you, that doesn't mean it's ridiculous or complete crack.

I will defend what I consider meaningful, I saw the argument you presented before and I find it invalid. Clara and Near is to me way more suitable than Near and anyone from DN. I don't know why you bothered to comment in the first place, it will not change my mind. Clara and Near have their supporters and that is enough for me.
Your last sentence applies to you as well.
