Description Two Devonian antiarchs, heavily-armored placoderm fish characterized by jointed, caliper-like pectoral fins. The top is Parayunnanolepis, a fairly small (3in) fish known from a complete articulated fossil w/ evidence of pelvic fins. The bottom is the larger, bulkier Asterolepis. The most difficult part of coloring these guys is making the armored front half and the scaled back half look like the same animal.Β

Β Another superb colouring job - if I were to see the illustration in person, one would have to resist the strong suspicion that I could FEEL the fish itself were one to run my fingers over this image!Β

Beautiful! How long does it take you to draw one of them?

Thanks! It depends on what I'm drawing, but I would say anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour (I've never really timed myself). I spend a lot of time beforehand researching the animal and thinking of an appropriate integument/color scheme though.Β
