Description
These are some plants from Planet Coatlicue. Crystalplants dont grow any advanced tissues, but their body form transparent shell similar to glass (but organic, so in chemical point of view, it is more like acrylic glass than normal glass). Inside this shell, there is suspension of algae-like cells floating in extracellular matrix. So whole plant is something like aquarium with algae culture inside. This trait will be used in the future by Velorans, who would use this "crystalplant blood" extracted from the shell to produce oxygen in biological section of their spaceships.
Some crystalplants hovever lack shell, and have leathery membrane instead. Some of them grow hydrogen filled ballonets, so plant float in air instead of growing on the ground. Many species of such plants form important part of aerial plankton, and some of those air floating species can be really big.
Most crystalplants are however small. On high latitudes, where rainfall is almost never ending, blueplants

win in competition as trees, and crystalplants can be find here mostly as epiphytes, climbers or small species in the undergrowth.
Truly big crystalplants grow closer to equator, where air temperature frequently exceedes water boiling temperature. Here rain falls less often, while water evaporate very quickly. Water-profligate blueplants cannot grow here, so there grow forests of giant crystalplants.
Tallest of them are so called sabres. They grow in case of some species to 90 meters tall. Sabre forest is quite strange, as all trees direct their narrow edges in east-west axis, and theit flat edges to north-south axis. On Earth colonies of compass termite mounds in Australia looks similar but of course dont grow to such spectacular size. Most species are shaped more like shark fin or sabre than symmetrical sword, so they direct their tip to the same direction, to which trade wind blows. All the trees in the forest face the same direction. But if wind changes, which happens when huricane passes trough sabre forest (which on Coatlicue is quite frequent), something very strange happens in the forest. All sabres begin to vibrate and like tuning fork, emit sound. So during storm all sabre forest begin to sing, which sound like music of giant organs.
Closer to equator is great green desert, where is so hot that water hardly ever condenses and big crystalplants can't grow any more. Small-suculent cabbage-like crystalplants (they look like fishbowl filled with green water) still thrive here, but desert is kingdom of termophytes (they are not in this drawing, but are visible in many other drawings of Coatlicue life, they look like long, black climbers with holes) which grow in layer several dozen meters deep here. They are not exacly plants, however they are still autotrophic. They get energy not from photosynthesis but from thermosynthesis, as they evolved enzymatic version of heat engine. When temperature of their bodies change, they produce glucose.
Half of this page is empty. 10 years ago i wanted to draw some more species but now I dont remember how i wanted them to look like.
