With my naked eye, they appear blue when I pick them off a bush.
Oh and actually, here's a bit of material from blueberry.org that refers blueberries a "true blue" food, due to the presence of anthocyanin.

As a side no te, blue does exist in nature, just saying.

As you can see, plenty examples of variants of blue exist in nature that aren't purples. However, your version of what you see as "true" blue and what I see as "true" blue are different, due to the nature of slight variations in our biological sight and sight processing hardware.
But I know if you squish a blueberry, it is purple. The meat of the fruit is light in color, with the inner skin being a variant of purple. The outside of the berry appears more blue sometimes due to the texture of the outer skin (The matte or "dry" or even "dusty" appearance makes what could otherwise be purple seem more blue, hence we call them BLUE berries, not purple berries. Lol.
It could also probably be argued that there is never really any "true" anything. I also never said blueberries were "true" blue. I don't get why it's important.
So I get that blueberries are blue-purpleish (and already sort of knew that, as most people who can see colors and who have seen or eaten blueberries), but is it a huge deal if I think of blueberries as blue?
Also, the point of this deviation is that I decided I liked this color of purple and wanted to do a meow in that color. Big whoop.
