Star’s POV

My head pounded duly. My body ached. Everything hurt. I drew in a struggling breath, unable to breath out of my nose. I tried to move a hand to clutch my head, which had evolved into a wicked headache, but it was restrained. I tried to open my eyes but they seemed to be sealed shut.

“Iggy…” I called out weakly. The words rasped against my throat, throwing me onto spasms of coughing.

“She’s awake,” a voice said.

I turned my head towards the noise. Cold hands touch my skin. I tried to recoil but couldn’t. I turned my head from side to side, moaning softly. I couldn’t open my eyes, I couldn’t see, why couldn’t I see?

“Iggy…” I whispered again. Fear broke through the haze of confusion that fogged up my mind.

Needles pricked my skin. I realized that there was a tube over my mouth. Metal straps held my arms and legs down. The world was still shrouded in darkness. I pulled frantically at my bonds.

“Iggy!” I screamed. “Iggy!!”

“She’s awake.” A man said. I thrashed violently, fear seizing me in its grasp.

“Put her back under,” a cold voice commanded. I froze, a blade of fear slicing off all movement.

“Yes sir,” someone said.

Cold leaked into my veins. A single realization struck me as I fell into the black.

I was back at the school!

The black dragged me down. I tried to fight it but it was too strong.

“Iggy…”

Iggy’s POV

“Have you found her?” I asked, frantic.

“Nope,” Zephyr said. “They took her.”

“How do you know?” I snapped.

“Because we have been searching for three days straight and we still haven’t found her!” Zephyr yelled at me.

“She has to be here somewhere,” I said, more to myself.

“No she doesn’t,” Zephyr growled. “They have her! Alright! And it’s your entire fault!”

“Shut up,” I yelled. I threw a punch at him. It glanced off his jaw.

“You know it’s true, you blind freak!” Zephyr snapped. “If it hadn’t been for you trying to be all noble then she would be safe!”

“If you hadn’t been keeping secrets from the rest of us then we could have worked this whole thing out!”

“Okay, listen, fighting is not going to get us anywhere.” Zephyr said with obvious reluctance. “We have to work together to get her back.”

“What school did they take her to?” I asked, ready to do anything to get Star back.

“Probably to her old school,” Zephyr said.

“And where the hell is that?” I asked.

“The Bermuda Triangle,”

Max’s POV

I sighed and looked out the window, rubbing my stomach. Over the past few a large bulge where the baby was had stretched out the skin, forming a round ball. My mother said that I should be going into labor any day know. The thought still scared me, but I knew I had to get used to it. I was going to have a kid and I had to be ready.

“Max?” a small voice from behind asked me.

“Hey Angel,” I smiled as she came and curled up with me on the couch.

“Worrying about the baby again?” she asked. I nodded.

“Don’t worry,” she said. “The baby loves you and adores you and that sort of thing.”

I felt my jaw drop. “H-how…?”

She tapped her head. “I can read minds, remember.” She laughed.

I laughed along, a bit nervously. Sometimes she still scared me with that mind reading thing.

I looked at her quickly. If she had heard my last comment she showed no sign of it. Instead she was looking out the window, sorrow etched into her features.

“What’s wrong baby?” I asked, placing an arm around her shoulders.

She sighed. “I’m worried about Star…”

My eyes went wide as I realized that it had been four days since Zephyr had come to talk to me. That meant Star was…

“Dead?!” Angel shrieked. I gasped, remembering that Angel could read minds. “What do you mean she’s dead?”

I tried to push the whole conversation with Zephyr from my mind but instead it was brought front and center, as though it was dragged there.

“No,” tears welled in Angel’s eyes. “She can’t be…”

“I’m sorry Angel,” I tried to comfort but she pushed me away.

“Why didn’t you tell me!” She yelled. “We could have helped her!”

“But...” I fumbled for the excuses I had given Zephyr.

“She was still part of the flock!” Angel cried. Tears streaked down her face, her fist clenched. “You gave up everything to come save me from the school, why was Star any different? This time you actually had a heads up so that you could protect her from this ever happening. And now she’s dead! I knew you never liked her, but I never thought that you would be okay with her dying!”

Fang, Ella, Gazzy, and Nudge stood in the doorway, most likely summoned by Angel’s shrieking. Gazzy held Nudge while she sobbed. Fang looked stricken. And Ella looked like it was Christmas, New Years, and her sweet 16 all rolled into one.

“I hate you,” Angel said, her voice taking on a deathly whisper that scared me more than the screaming. She turned and flew to the front door.

“Where are you going?” I asked; standing up, ready to go after her.

“Away from you,” she said without a glance behind her. She threw open the door.

A gust of wind brought the tears of the clouds above in to drench the carpet. Two figures, soaked to the bone, huddled outside.

“Iggy!” I exclaimed. I wondered where he had run off to. “Zephyr?” I asked as the second figure came into the light.

I sank down onto the couch. If Zephyr was here then that meant Star really was…

I put a hand over my mouth, not wanting to believe it. Even though I had forsaken Star I had believed that Zephyr would protect her from them. But now…

I sobbed. Fang sat down next to me and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. I leaned against his chest, letting my tears soak his shirt. He said nothing, but held me, stroking my hair, with the reassuring silence I had grown to love about him.

“Max,” Iggy said desperately. I looked up at him. “We need your help!”

“With what?” I half sobbed.

“We’re going to get Star back,”
